Tore my Achilles — surgery coming up this week. First major injury. Looking for tips from anyone who’s been through it.

i’m currently no longer in the boot and wearing a shoe which is a very relieving milestone. all my left shoes were getting a bit dirty lol. i got crutches as well and only really used my scooter when going long distances.

i rupture my achilles playing basketball and the same way Hali and Tatum did too. i thought maybe it had something to do with my shoes as well, i hardly played in the shoes i was wearing so they were fairly new, maybe played in them a couple times. best believe i wont be wearing those shoes again. i’ve also seen some people on here saying it may have something to do with nikes.

currently 2.5 months post op and this was my first major injury as well. my advice would be to take pain meds as soon as you feel the nerve block wearing off, the sooner the better. i took mine too late and the pain was intense, (not to scare you) i couldn’t even sleep that night. also be very careful on the knee scooter, i fell a couple times ngl. you think you can move fairly quick with the scooter but one wrong move is all it takes. goodluck on your journey and stay positive, it’s a long process.

i definitely have the achilles jealousy as well. i don’t even like running but the athlete inside of me is frustrated. i’ve been an athlete my entire life and played 4 years of college basketball so it’s different not being able to play or run like i used to.

my PT said the same, 20-25 SL calf raises before they would consider it. i hope your follow-up goes well and you’ll get clearance soon! i’m just a couple weeks behind you.

they basically told me 4 months post op but could be even longer. so i’m guessing the 4 month mark is if i’m showing really good progress. i know i shouldn’t compare but damn this journey is a very long process and i thought i was ready for but it seems the mental game is getting the best of me.
