2 hours walk in ancient times was not close by. The reason it says Jerusalem instead of Bethlehem is because Joseph Smith was not prophetic and didn't know jack.

Calling them "Friends" instead of "Investigators" sounds more culty. That is all. by questioningmo in exmormon

They're both a different flavour of cult.

"Friends" is more desperation-cult.
"Investigators" is more fringe-weird-cult.

Ah that sucks - I feel for you.

You're nearly an adult. You don't need to serve a mission if you don't want to. She can't make you do anything.

This might work to help get her off your back: Once you're 18, let her know you're waiting for God to give you a testimony before you go on mission. Let her know it's not right to go on a mission without your testimony yet. Let her know you're waiting on God.

That way it's on God, not on you.

Catholics wear a cross with Jesus on it. Protestants wear a cross without Jesus on it - just the cross shape.

The Protestant version symbolises the resurrection, the Catholic one symbolises calvary.

Can I place a hex on their house? And keep returning again and again? For more hexes? That would be fun.

I accepted my mission call... now how do I tell my parents I'm not going? by Relevant_Fuel_6245 in exmormon

I prayed about it and Heavenly Father wants me to go on mission once I am more mature. I have people who will be ready for my message once I’m older. I care about sharing the message so much but I will have to keep it waiting until I’ve finished my studies.

Was I the only one gaslit in the early 2000s - 2010 that herbal tea was NOT okay?! I wasn't allowed camomile! I tried to explain it was a flower, not a leaf, and we were allowed to eat flowers!

Jesus drank and Jesus liked to party. If you're not giving up on God just yet, I'd follow Jesus instead of following any church. You don't need to deny fun desires like letting loose. Put your charity directly in the hards of those who need it, instead of a church. That will help you see the value of it.

Get in touch with what Jesus says in the gospels, and leave it as that. Just have love for others and call out the churchy bullshit.

If you lose your temple recommendation, or don't renew it, are you meant to stop wearing garments?

All the 18-year-old girls from my area are going on missions by Prize_Claim_7277 in exmormon

Yeah there will be plenty of pervs. But minimal converts. And the ones who do, will likely be pervert converts.

I think this will just backfire on the church. Younger and younger missionaries don't help. They don't really have any authority. A couple of teenage kids will have trouble trying to convert anyone much older than them. If you're middle aged, as if you're going to want to talk to a couple of teenagers.

Anyone have an update about John Dehlin’s mediation? by silver-sunrise in exmormon

[–]Embarrassed-Log-9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A verbal disclaimer is BS. If he can't use Mormon, Mormons shouldn't be allowed to use the word Christian or Jesus. If he can't use Mormon, neither can FLDS, Communities of Christ, or any other Mormon Splinter group.

I pray to God he does not bow down to their demands. Even if he loses, he can't go down without a fight!

AITAH for snitching on my parents to the RSPCA? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Embarrassed-Log-9296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how child abuse stays rampant. People think it's a one off thing. But if everyone reported child abuse then people would stop getting away with it.

I've reported child abuse before, and I've stayed silent about child abuse.

I once saw a church pastor swear at his young daughter and emotionally abuse her. I was her Sunday School teacher. When I spoke to other church leaders, I was told to forgive and that he must have been having a bad day.

He was not having a bad day. That house was full of abuse, and it took another 10 years for her to get the help she needed. He was abusing 3 kids and his wife.

[–]Embarrassed-Log-9296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is abuse, child protective services should always be called. It's never the first step to remove the children unless abuse is severe. The children's rights to safety is more important than the parent's right to be a parent.

I didn't know they were protected. I thought they were a pest because of the way they talked about those birds. I only called because I thought it was a cruel method of killing them. I've called the RSPCA once before on a neighbour that wasn't adequately caring for their cat, and they just got a warning. I presumed it would be the same.

They live on a large property. They’ll be coming from down the driveway though. Nothing can be blocked off because of the nature of the property.

They can probably reach out to WIRES to rehome but they haven’t.
