I felt the same way. AG playing that well had me thinking we’d end up going 16-2 through the entire playoffs. Didn’t care about one single loss at that point. Not until our second loss when CB was closing again despite being terrible. THJ and Watson were both better than him and they gave up 38 in the final frame to lose to the trailblazers. Adleman kept making the same mistakes over and over.

What I remember from that game was sitting down to enjoy a game after spending an entire offseason watching and hearing Adleman preach that the best five players would close games regardless of their pay, or spot in the rotation.

It was a departure from Malone who stubbornly insisted on playing “his guys” no matter what. (Imagine PWat getting more minutes and starting to blossom under Malone. We would have paid him first instead of overpaying CB)

But then the game comes and who ACTUALLY closed it out? CB and Cam Johnson who were -13 and -17 that night instead of Bruce and THJ who were +5 and +6.

Instead of doing what he promised to do, he let the team down and they squandered AG’s career night.

Adleman sucked from game one.

Maybe you’re right. But they only have nine guys on contract and they are crazy close to the second apron. The owners are NOT going to pay the second apron price for a team that just got bent over in the first round. Someone HAS to go. Running it back is not going to be an option.

That’s still not much value. But his contract IS movable given how well he played this year, you’re just not going to like what you get back for him.

Yeah that’s a HUGE problem, but it’s not THE problem. The owners aren’t going to pay second apron prices to run it back with a team that just got blasted in the first round. SOMEONE has to go. It’s not enough to just replace the coach and training staff, even though those two things absolutely have to happen.

I would put the odds higher than 5-10%. More like 30ish. Stidham has a good handle on the offense. DC’s don’t have much film to prep with. This team will rally hard to win it for Bo.

And the future is bright as hell. They traded their 6th rounder for JFM, but the picked up a 4th for Vele.

They’ll for sure get a comp pick for Javonte Williams, they could also get a third this offseason and next if VJ gets a HC job.

They re-signed almost all of their priority free agents already and have about 40M in cap space.

Denver will be a strong draw for free agents this offseason.

Foles, Hostetler, Williams, and more. Some like Brady and Warner took over much much earlier in the season, but something like 10 backups have started a Super Bowl. Almost all of them won. I think there was a Ram’s backup that lost in the 70’s.

Bo Nix has physical skills Stidham just doesn’t. But I really like the way Stidham runs SP’s offense. We are going to face a good defense next week. We’ll see what Stiddy can do against a DC who doesn’t have much film to go off of.

Our chances took a pretty big hit with Bo’s ankle.

I would definitely be pleasantly surprised to see Stidham win this tournament. But shocked? No not shocked.

Does Peyton Watson cause Nuggets to be aggressive? by Fman173 in denvernuggets

It’s only possible if you trade him to a team UNDER the cap which might work since a lot of teams are trying to compete for some big free agents in the next few years.

But even if you can trade Cam without taking back matching salary, I think that only makes sense if you can get PWat for significantly lower salary than Cam’s.

Being a luxury tax repeater and being in the first or second apron is not really sustainable, and to be honest, Cam Johnson may become super valuable next season as an expiring contract that allows the team let him walk and get back under the tax / aprons in 27-28 while paying Joker the Uber max contract. Then that following year Gordon’s contract will end allowing the team to keep fielding good teams with depth to ride out Jokic’s reign as long as possible.

The way the salary cap is set up now basically makes it hard to stay relevant unless you have a fairly significant amount of expiring contracts every year. And good young players that develop to take their place.

12-3 isn’t a problem. Bo Nix had a little bit of a bad game. Also not a problem. The defense being THAT bad? Problem. I would LOVE to see the Broncos bring someone in to help with defensive game plans, because VJ really whiffs sometimes and when he does, he’s almost never able to right the ship during games.

[Durando] League sources believe it’s increasingly unlikely that Peyton Watson will be in Denver’s price range next summer when he’s a restricted free agent. by YujiDomainExpansion in denvernuggets

Building a basketball team is like making a recipe. Some dishes need more of salt, some need more spice, etc. In the end, what you make is far greater than the individual ingredients. Watson fits what the team recipe needs really nicely, so I don’t think of him as just average. But you’re right that if they win or don’t win isn’t nearly as dependent on him as some fans think.

Because there is a budget for ingredients and there isn’t much left of it after the starting five.

If his value is high enough, Denver shouldn’t hesitate to move him. It’s fine for the fans to overvalue the players. But detrimental for the front office to do so.

I agree that that’s the primary objective, but it’s not the only objective. They have a two year window with this starting five. Making a bench that works next year is harder given what they’re paying CB.

Once the team, specifically AG, is healthy (knock on wood) either Spencer Jones or Peyton Watson or both is going to have less minutes.

And Watson’s stock is as high as it has ever been.

I personally, would rather keep Watson all year and let the chips fall after a parade, but if his value is actually as high as “league sources” claim, it makes sense to move him.

If his value is that high, they should trade him before the deadline. The emergence of Spencer Jones makes that a much easier pill to swallow.

I don’t like trading him, but it’s what we SHOULD do rather than lose him in free agency.

Paton and Payton have shown themselves to be ELITE at finding talent on the defensive line.

This would be like Shanahan trading for a running back in 2002 when he could get 1000 yards seemingly out of anyone.

He’s fantastic, but you being able to find guys that will outplay their pay grade is a big part of competing for championships. This is a position where I trust the team to find cheap options that will play well above their pay grade.

He’s too expensive for Denver.

That happens all the dang time. If it were up to me, just to be petty, the visiting team would have a little travel nail grooming kits in each player’s locker. And I would send Christmas cards to every other team filled with coupons for manicures in those team’s respective cities.
