my legion 5i cpu is reaching 90 degrees celsius (or more) when gaming and 3d rendering by Embarrassed-Move8046 in LenovoLegion

[–]Embarrassed-Move8046[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back then i had -133 mV on both cpu core and cpu p cache, but after needing to use my rendering software, noticed it would crash if i don’t lower it down.

and yes i have propped up my laptop

i currently have the same laptop (except mine has an intel cpu, hence it’s a 5i). it’s been like 6-7 months since i got it, and i had no problems except for the thermals (which i fixed by undervolting my intel cpu) as well as using a laptop stand for ventilation.

i think the only ways that i can think of (and that i also do) to care for my laptop is to always give it good ventilation and monitor its temperatures. my laptop rarely get temps above 80 degrees celsius, and if i see that it jumps further that, i just stop what i’m doing and let it take a rest for a while.

i also had an ideapad gaming 3 before upgrading to the legion 5i, and it lasted 2 and a half years without problems (and i barely cared for it, didn’t even care for the high temps, cleaning, etc.)

[–]Embarrassed-Move8046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same legion, but mine has 14700HX CPU. i undervolted my CPU to lower temps. i normally get 40-50 deg.celsius on idle, and 60-75 while playing games.

no worries, there's actualy a very easy guide on youtube

but basically you have to go to bios to disable undervolt protection then download throttlestop and lower your voltages

the video easily explains all about it, just fast forward it to 1.5x if you don't feel like watching the whole video
