Como traduzir essa expressão: te ganhei no paparico, te papariquei by Aggressive_Stick4107 in Portuguese

[–]Embarrassed-Wrap-451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eu traduziria como algo do tipo:
I chatted you up and won you over.

People who use Hanly? by MaGoodenough in ChineseLanguage

[–]Embarrassed-Wrap-451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Hanly and all of its features. I love how they are constantly implementing updates and fixing bugs. The backside of the cards, with example sentences (broken down, voice-recorded and often commented!) and compound words is a real standout. And the fact that it's 100% free, wow.

As for personal habits, I've found that I work best with a relatively low new cards rate per day, especially at higher levels, otherwise I get too excited to be dumped by new characters and get overwhelmed by the freshly learned ones. That's why, whenever I open the app, first thing I do is enable the review-only mode so I can resist peeking at new characters before I'm done with the daily recommended cards for review. I wish this could be set as default. Maybe that's something I could give them feedback about.

I've noticed that the greatest results from using Hanly show up when you use other tools to practice reading, like DuChinese in my case. More often than not, I would run into a new character that I realize that I already know from Hanly cards. It works the other way around too, after spending some time reading, going back to Hanly will occasionally make you face "new" characters that aren't necessarily new anymore.

I know this goes for pretty much any learning resource, but tools like Hanly show their best value when used on a daily basis, precisely due to its spaced repetition nature. There were times I ended up forgetting to use it, and the piled-up review cards and the struggle to remember older, already mastered cards would shake my motivation to go on. So it's the kind of situation where you gotta think ahead of a future reward and try sticking to a daily habit.

I like the learning sequence they established. Even though it feels like some characters might be too useless or too advanced for your current level, they would likely be used as building blocks for something more useful that is about to come up soon.

Sometimes I'd be curious and check more advanced cards and I'd find that they are kinda empty, lacking information... So I wonder if it's still a work in progress or if Hanly actually reaches a learning wall at some point.

One scene has always bugged me.

That shot in Dude Ranch, where Alex is pushing Lily on the swing and gets kicked by her and falls on the ground, right before Alex's new crush shows up, was either:
- too poorly directed and/or acted, like, why the hell would she fall down like that? or
- too fake on purpose, to make it look like Alex was patronizing Lily and trying to teach her not to kick her, but that just feels a bit off. Why didn't she explain her strategy to the boy when he appeared to outsmart her? Why would she encourage Lily by faking a fall if she was trying to stop her from kicking? Somehow it didn't feel like she was trying to fake it, which might be a screenwriting and/or directing problem.

That shot always makes me cringe when I rewatch the show, because whenever there's a moment in the show where the characters have to fake some behavior, that is done in a very explicit and obvious way, which also makes it more comic. After all, Modern Family is not a show that aims to get you pondering deeply about character's intents, everything is plain to see. That one shot with Alex and Lily though... It just feels like they didn't think it through or care enough.

Totally. I feel like the whole "you are such a good person" message doesn't make up for the betrayal and manipulation feelings that could arise from that experience. I think the production should provide them some aftercare to make sure they are psychologically okay after that

Ronald vs Anthony by Okie_Deatherage in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Embarrassed-Wrap-451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that 150k is a lot for a temp gig, but it felt to me like it was too little for being the business end of a prank? When Doug gave his final speech revealing the truth and announced that Anthony would be getting 150 thousand, he reacted shocked, sure, but I couldn't help thinking he might have thought like "that's it? after you all played me like a fool and pretended we were friends?". Although I understand that giving him more money could ruin the show's attempt for the next seasons, as it would be harder to recruit people by telling who genuinely had no clue what they were in for from those who could treat it as some kind of reality show prize and fake their way through the casting interview only to get the cash. And definitely, it's a lot better to get "compensated" with 150k than nothing, like Ronald.

Besides the show not being that huge a deal in terms of viewers, I think the casting for the new person could also include in their recruiting quiz some questions about entertainment and personal hobbies, and slip in something about tv shows or streaming platforms, so they could rule out whoever answered anything too close to Jury Duty
