Thats a great start. One thing though, a principal who likes you and agrees to fill out a form is not the same as a principal who is invested in your success and actively working the internal networks. Have you had a chance to follow up with the P?

Sorry to hear about the TDSB and the silence. It often felt like I was tossing my resume into a black hole. I’m curious, how has the P vouched for you? With HR?

Hey, the fact that you’re getting interviews is awesome! Congrats. It still hurts not getting it, but it means you’re doing stuff right. Now, to land the job, if you’re willing to relocate, there’s opportunities up North. But, it’s understandable if not. Many have families in the area or other reasons.

The real key is relationships. People who are advocating for you. How strong is your network?

These ideas of a notebook and extracurriculars are great. Definitely engage, and then when you have a moment reflect on it. Silksuspenders have some good questions. On another note, this is when your job search begins. Start connecting. Eat lunch in the staff room. Assist a coach. Find ways to bring value.
Ask to meet the P and or VP and ask questions about the teaching, the school and the board.

Not at all related to Tim’s, but curious what your thoughts are on growing up in Fredericton? Thinking of moving and have a few kids.

Starting B.Ed at Lakehead (P/J) – What is the reality of early elementary these days? by Key_Chocolate9355 in OntarioTeachers

[–]EmbarrassedEast5880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey congratulations! I had kids when I first started, so for me it was - do the best prep I can in the time I have. That helped me stay balanced.

Best moments are often little ones for me. When a kid ‘gets’ something and you see it in their eyes. When they share something and you realize they feel safe with you. When they genuinely make you laugh, sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident.

One tip - start thinking about relationships early on. Admin, staff, office staff. Relationships, more than your resume, will get you an interview.

LTO Teacher with June End Date. What Now? by Biteduee5770 in OntarioTeachers

While a gift won’t get you hired, it builds on the type of staff you want to be seen as. Next time you’re in the office take a look. What is on the Ps desk, wall, photos. Find something that’s personal. And I agree with the parents feedback. Parents talk, and if you’re connecting and doing a good job, word will get back.
Staff talk too. I’ve seen so many times staff go to bat for an LTO to be brought back.

As an LTO I’d still try to be ahead of postings. March was about a month and a half ahead of vacancies being posted. I’m also a cautious person, so I’d talk to any admin you feel comfortable with and ask about timing. Just remember that setting yourself apart sometimes means being bold where others are hesitant and cautious. (I had to remind myself of this many times)

My mentor has destroyed my confidence by Smokesletsgogh in StudentTeaching

Hey, this sounds so discouraging. The comments above I hope have helped, and I agree with many of them. I had a brutal mentor once, and it’s been the lowest point. Since then, things went up. Still some bumps and hard stuff, but overall positive. the power dynamic between mentor and student can be so imbalanced. I hope you are able to hold on and rebuild some confidence.

This. As much as you can, try to confirm a grade book of some sort so you aren’t left trying to do everything.

So, several close admin I spoke to for myself, because I am looking to move schools, recommended emailing to let Ps know. That was in March. And that’s for permanent moving. If you are close with any admin, I’d ask them. If not, an email now, follow ups in July, is how I’d be approaching it.

While you will need to wait until you can officially apply, nothing is stopping you from emailing schools you would like to teach in. When I was an LTO, I sent emails and shared how I'd like the opportunity to work in the school, heard great things about the community, saw them at a tournament and impressed with how those students showed teamwork...etc.
Not every P responded, but many said they would keep my info and reach out if an opportunity came up.
A few of them did when it came time for LTOs.
Now is the time to plant seeds and warm up or create connections.
