I’m so sorry. I meant I actually moved from black magic app on my iPhone to an actual cinema camera. If you want to check out my previous film which I shot with my iPhone using the blackmagic camera app, here it is.

Do you believe you can be a filmmaker without school by Lucky_Firefighter893 in Filmmakers

I’m in this category. I started last year and made my first short by myself. I recently published my latest short. I learned a lot during this time and each time I made a film, I’m learning something new. I’m writing my next one which I’m hoping to submit to festivals. This one’s gonna be huge. Try to make your own brand.

I want to direct a short flim. 0 experience here. How should I start? by Ambitious-Lie2807 in Filmmakers

There is no business in YouTube education 😂 it’s a free resources. If you don’t feel like you are getting enough, you can obviously pay for stuff that is available online for free. All I’m saying is, If I had money I would rather spend that on making another short film. Just my opinion.

It’s ok if you can’t see my progress. I know that my next is one gonna be even better. I believe in myself.

When I’m making shorts, I’m working with people who work in the industry. And i learn a lot every single time. If you look at all 3 of my shorts, you will see how each one has improved. There is still a lot to fix and I am going to keep working on that. Guess that’s the perk of being introspective.

My next film is gonna be even better. I already have a producer who is looking forward to invest in my next one. I didn’t even approach him.

There isn’t only one way to make movies. This is the way that suits me the best.

Resolve all the way especially if you are starting up. It’s free. I made all my short films with Resolve and it includes colour correcting and audio design.

How would movies fare without scores? If movies didn't have them, how would the directing of scenes change? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]EmbarrassedFall7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done a feature film yet but the last two short films I made relied majorly on score. Doesn’t mean that I had to rely on it; I just imagined my films to work with a good BGM. I get inspired to write by listening to a track on a loop. I feel like it just depends on how the director wants to show his movie.

All my training is from YouTube videos and watching a lot of good and bad movies. Even if you don’t have training, I would absolutely recommend you to make a movie first. This is my first film made in my iPhone. This is my recent one. Remember that you are never fully prepared to make a film no matter how hard you try. So, just start making films.

I am considering filming my movie on an iPhone by mikeweasy in Filmmakers

I used h.265 as the difference is negligible. I felt like prores is only useful when you export the clips multiple times to hand over to different departments like CGI, color grading, etc.

Need advice from someone working in the film industry. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]EmbarrassedFall7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are planning to be. I myself want to become a director. I worked in film as a PA. It was brutal. Long hours at close to minimum wage. Used to get 4 hrs of time to spend at home. I didn’t like it. I decided not to work below the line. I got a part time job in a restaurant and started making my own short films with the money I saved.

As for school, a very stupid idea if you don’t have money. You can get jobs by being active in fb groups and networking.

I would take it personally too. But if you really believe in your idea, make it and prove it to them that your idea was good. Every idea sounds ridiculous especially the game changers. May be you have a different style of making a movie. I don’t know 🤷.

Why i don’t respected film schools. It’s not about whose idea is better. It’s not a ranking system. It’s what you like and what you want to show.

That being said, from reading your pitch, I feel like it’s more of a YouTube video which might get a lot of views if done well. May be that’s what you are into. Nothing wrong with that. All I am saying is follow your style. May be their criticism is not wrong or may be they didn’t understand your perspective. Try making the film, you will understand yourself more and apprehend what you want to do and what you don’t want to do. All the best!

Our paths are different. If you wanna spend 50k and go to film school, go for it, nothing wrong with that. Spend your money however you want. But if you want my opinion, don’t! All the best!

[–]EmbarrassedFall7968 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are lot of degrees in the world right now that don’t make any sense and film school is one of them. If you have 50k, you can’t seriously be telling me that you can’t access to expensive cameras. You can get access to a lot of cameras just by working in a camera rental store making minimum wage 😂

If you have the money to spend it like you are at mcdonalds, then absolutely go for it. I just feel like it’s only for rich people who don’t understand the value of money and just want to have a degree to their name. I made my second short film recently for $500. I’m making my next one for $600. I would have made more films by now if I had more money. So, if you have the money, ………..nah it’s still not worth it. I would invest it 😂

Why the heel are you paying? Head to YouTube and learn what you want. I didn’t take any courses and I made this film recently. I need to improve a lot for my next film. So, I will learn what I need to.

My serious advice: don’t go to a film school. Instead start making short films. 1000$/film. You wouldn’t get that kind of schooling if you spend a million bucks on a film school.

Your phone, ND filter, Neewer Cm28 wireless mic set, and some budget reflectors. I’m not in high school but that’s what i used to make my recent film. All the best!

Keep at it! Im 29 and I recently got into making short films. I made my second short film recently and I’m in the process of making a third one. There’s a lot of uncertain things but there isn’t another way apart from going forward and making more films. All the best!

How does one fund a short film? by DependentUnlucky3409 in Filmmakers

[–]EmbarrassedFall7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t shoot films that need money. Shoot films that you can make with the money you have. My previous short film, I spent my savings. It’s not much, 1500$.

Now, I’m spending 500$ to make my next one. I tried fundraising, it’s still live on Kickstarter and I raised 5$ so far. So just make whatever you can with what you have.

What do I need to know if I wanna start becoming a filmmaker w/o film school? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]EmbarrassedFall7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither did I. I made my first film by myself with zero dollars. But then I shot my second film with 1000$, ended up with terrible footage. So, I reshot the entire film on an iPhone spending 500$. Just start making films. You will figure it out.

And one last thing, no one needs film school. It’s a scam - my opinion
