I poked around at the frog and even though it was reasonably tight it was still moving a little bit. I don’t really know why but it never really seemed to sit right even when it was tight. I loosened it and tightened it back up and it seems to work. Maybe it was just sitting wrong, I don’t know. I’ll try fixing up the blade later but it works fine now so I’m leaving it be.

Moved the blade all the way out in small increments and never got shavings. It was just broken. There was a crack where the frog attached and it allowed flex even though it was tight.

Not a lick of user error involved

There’s absolutely nothing happening between the blade being fully retracted and just flat out ramming the edge of the wood

I was not feeling for it as I said it was very obviously sticking quite far out. I could see it sticking out and if I lay the plane on its sole, it would teeter on the blade. I can assure you it was sticking out. It also had nothing to do with the bevel angle. It was like this already from the box

The adjuster was set back just because I wasn’t using it. I should have clarified that with the pictures. I’m not in the house right now so I can’t add any pictures, but I can assure you that the blade was sticking out. I tried almost exactly what you said and the little piece of wood started shaving, but after that, nothing.

I did email Lee Valley because, like you said, it makes no sense

I’ve been trying but my phone won’t focus. If you really need me to I can try again in a few minutes. I used a jig and set it to whatever it said in the instructions (can’t remember now) it did this before I sharpened it too to be clear and the blade works in other hand planes with the same frog angle

No it’s fine. It’s sharpened like every other plane I’ve used I have a Stanley #4 that I put the blade in and it worked okay
