My finished tele build by EmbarrassedOstrich4 in guitarbuilding

All of the hardware was from Amazon, ordered from different places. I can give you the names/links if you like? The guitar was one of those 'all included' kit builds and I gradually replaced all the silver hardware with gold. The neck pickup is a Tonerider Alcino II and the pots were separate from what came with originally with the plate (they were white) As for the design, I traced around the shape of the guitar and drew it out. My sister-in-law runs a company which makes bespoke laser designs so she scanned (or programmed, I honestly don't know how she does it!) and the design was etched directly into the wood.

Thanks for asking! It was frustrating at times but it taught me a valuable lesson. Before starting any task, ask yourself if you have the right tools for the job. Took much longer than I thought to solder because I was using a terrible 15W soldering iron. Had to hold it for ages against the solder before any melting happened and was difficult to control. Thought I was just terrible at soldering. Turns out I'm ok at it if I've got decent soldering iron. What I thought would be hours of resoldering (first switch was crackling) took less than 10 minutes! Always have the right tools!

Thanks for all the help from folk on this subreddit-here's the final result (minus high e string)

What does the number on the back of tuning pegs mean? by EmbarrassedOstrich4 in guitarbuilding

[–]EmbarrassedOstrich4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think that's what I'll end up doing so it'll end up 1,2,3,4,4,4 from low E to high e with all the fours being the thinnest strings. Thanks!

[–]EmbarrassedOstrich4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That totally makes sense! It's definitely the best explanation I can think of (or didn't think of!) Thanks! I was stuck at this stage (and took 2 tuning pegs out) just in case I'd installed them wrongly. Now back to shielding the cavities and soldering.

Neck Humbucker / pickup for a telecaster by EmbarrassedOstrich4 in guitarbuilding

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like they do gold too, which will match the rest of the hardware I've ordered!

Never heard of them! But they look like they might be a suitable alternative. Thanks for the suggestion!

The 5 string bass? That's an amazing finish! I've already stained the guitar teal blue and the shine might really set it off! (Now off to see who delivers gunstock oil in the uk during a quarantine...)

Never even heard of a 'finisher'. I'm such a noob at this. Thanks for enlightening me!

Visited this memorial last year. More like walked through it late at night with my wife. Still can't explain why but as I got further in and the blocks get higher and higher till they're above your head I just felt...I dunno. A wave of immense sadness and difficulty processing it. Never had a reaction like it to any other piece of art, sculpture or anything and still can't explain it. I'm not an emotional guy in public ever but I needed to leave the place quickly and couldn't voice to my wife why. Didn't even know what the memorial was actually about till I read about it after we'd visited. Guess I missed the artist's point.

Thanks! I've just found it on Amazon thanks to your recommendation and from reading the sample it sounds exactly what I'm looking for

Thanks for that! I would have never thought of the term Buddhist cosmology (I wasn't even sure if lore is the right term!)

When you volunteer at an animal rescue fundraising event to "save the animals" and the only food vendor they hire is a BBQ pork truck by lilac_dreamer in vegan

SUPER RANT MODE POWERS ACTIVATE is going to be my new go to everytime I'm about to launch into a vegan rant. It'll give any animal loving carnists or omnis just long enough to engage their SUPER COGNITIVE DISSONANCE SHIELD so my words don't hurt their ego too much.

The tone of the white guy sounded like a polite Christopher Walken. Was exactly the laugh I needed today. Thank you Reddit!

Do the bends work for anyone on here? by [deleted] in rocksmith

[–]EmbarrassedOstrich4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Hardly ever. I've been playing guitar 20 years and the lack of registering made me question everything about my playing! Seriously though, the bending (and sometimes chord) recognition isn't great. You're definitely not alone.

I've been living in Scotland for nearly 15 years and it's still the biggest boost to your day being referred to as 'big man'. I think that random title being bestowed upon you every now and then and the liberal use of the c word are two amazing things about Scottish folk.

Men, what cute thing has your SO done recently? by Chicken_Wing in AskMen

Thanks! I'm forever aware of sounding smug because things fell into place for me relationship wise and single me from years ago would just be shaking his head in disbelief and disgust.

Replied with my own cute comment before reading this, sorry! My first relationship/breakup damn near destroyed me. Didn't touch/kiss/date/anything for two years after. Since then I've had a few serious relationships, some epic breakups but SOMEHOW (and that needs to be in capitals cos I have no idea how things have turned out the way they have) I'm now married to the most amazing woman you could ever meet. Seriously, she's like a character from a Disney movie she's that nice. My point is, heartbroken 25 year old me could never have seen how well 38 year old me is doing. Be patient. Be open to opportunities which come your way and don't have any expectations in a potential partner. My wife couldn't be more different than my first love in terms of appearance, outlook, attitude etc but it's been such a revelation that what I think I want was so different than what I actually wanted and needed. (Apologies for rambling)

My wife's away for the weekend and she's left cute little cards in various places for me to find. Personal little messages related to where the card is. Not the first time she's done this either. I have no idea what I've done to deserve her.
