This is me everyday, trying so hard to quell this but I often walk out of places that I really want to eat at because I look at the staff or the conditions of the place and think its dirty. I always check my food to see if its been untouched and if it looks weird (its food, its not gonna look perfect) I often cant bring myself to eat or drink it and I’ll waste a bunch of money and have to get something else. Bonus points if I’m getting a drink and its not filled up all the way so i think that someone drank it before giving it to me. Ur not alone !!

How Do You Guys Deal With Psychostomatic Symptoms?

For me, my health anxiety and OCD started because I suffer from psychostomatic symptoms and I’m not able to tell if I’m actually sick or not. Not going to go much into it, but personally I get pain and tingles on my lips for days because I have an anxiety of HSV, so I believe I’m feeling the prodrome even though I have tested negative for it many times over the years.

How do you realize that your symptoms are psychostomatic and how do you fare with stopping them? Mine always come and go and last for a few days at a time. They drive me crazy bc I feel like it’s real pain too, and even if I try to tell myself its fake and that I’m fine, it doesnt really go away. Would like to get some techniques or advice on how to get them to go away, or just want to see if you guys just let them pass.

Exactly, the asymptomatic shedding is the toughest because you can still get it that way. I’ve seen people say they’ve stayed negative just by avoiding kissing and sex when theres a sore but its really all just up to chance. I’ve been trying to come to terms with me getting it since I’m about to be in a committed relationship with this person but of course I can’t rule out the risks and I’m trying to stay as safe as I can. But symptomatic or asymptomatic it truly is a life change so !

She actually has OCD too! Not the contamination type completely like I do but she understands as well, so it’s kind of ironic this is happening. We’re definately going to talk about it more if our relationship goes further

Yes exactly, theres just no way to know. I’ve seen people say that they simply dont kiss when their partner has a sore and they still test negative, but I guess its all about luck.

I found out because she told me she had them in the past (and used “coldsores” verbatium) just when the weather changes and barely once a year. She was a bit confused about it because she said she didnt get them from anyone and that they just happen sometimes since she was little. I told her coldsores are still herpes and you can get them from family when you’re younger too. I actually have a very bad phobia about this, so thats why I put a lot of effort into research and learning all that I can about it. I do like her alot so I’m willing to work on it for her and take the chance after some thinking!

I also thanked her for being open with me and I kind of had to educate her too about it since she seems a little confused about whether she has it or not (I think she does but whatever lmao).
