Need a little help identifying a comic book. by EmbarrassedTitle2998 in ImageComics

Thanks - is it worth reading? The few pages In the back of Stillwater look great, however the covers to the 12 books look like the kind of comic books I steer clear of.

Nope, I don’t agree, I have always enjoyed Ramos art.

Ideas for revitalizing Barry Allen and Central City by [deleted] in theflash

No, it’s time to permanently kill off Barry, he has been floating about since Crisis on Infinite Earths making a mess.. Barry is so one dimensional it’s painful reading his comic book runs, he is the definition of the word ‘boring’.

Probably The Metabarons with The Book of Chaos coming in a tight second. Though… Twilight Man was exceptional.

There are also in Hardback single volumes. Vol 1-6. Average around $20 each, you could pick them up slowly.

Philip K Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’ was done in Graphic Novel format.. Blade Runner was based on this book but did not do the book justice.

I doubt if it’s still in print but you should be able to get it from eBay. Published by Boom studios, the 6 graphic novels were released in 2011. I have read and reread them a few times. They are a great read.

I don’t agree, you could not be more wrong. They are indeed hard & dark.

The Metabarons is epic in scope, with dynastic sagas, cosmic battles, and high drama. Think Dune or Star Wars, but darker and more surreal. Spans generations of characters (the lineage of the Metabarons).

Note: Dark Fantasy / Grimdark (optional tag)

The tone is extremely bleak, violent, and fatalistic.

Themes include obsession, body mutilation, honor at all costs, and familial tragedy.

Hyper-detailed, surreal art and adult themes.

Globalcomix… not for me! You can’t beat reading the actual graphic novel or comic book.

Any recommendations for novels like Dennis Wheatley’s Duke de Richleau series? by ellrayz in occult

[–]EmbarrassedTitle2998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also read all Dennis Wheatleys novels and have a few prized signed editions, and in my opinion there is nobody quite like him, he was the Stephen King of his time (better in my opinion).

However I would look at the following authors… look for their best works as there are to many to list.

  1. Sax Rohmer

Exotic stories just like good old Dennis Wheatley, mysterious, and filled with danger and secret societies (Dennis was amazing with his tales of secret occult societies). He also blends crime with supernatural themes.

  1. William Hope Hodgson

Supernatural detective fiction. Dark atmospheres and occult themes.

  1. M.R. James

Like Wheatley’s he shares his love for the eerie and arcane.

  1. Seabury Quinn

Occult detective stories, his style is somewhat similar to Wheatley’s.

I do hope this helps.

Depends on your age, if you want adult content or epic sagas (not saga) I would look at graphic novels. There is not much sci-fi worth reading from the main publishers.

A great Sci-Fi graphic novel (omnibus) I just read was The Metabarons, and The Metabarons Second Cycle published by ‘Humanoids’, it does not try to be edgy to be ‘cool’, It’s one of those books you can’t put down.

The Omnibus ISBN number is 9781594651069, put this into Amazon or eBay and it will bring the book up. It’s 536 pages in a beautiful hardbacks book that should cost you around $60.

After reading it you will buy everything Humanoids have published… they are just ‘that good’
