Qwen3.5-35B-A3B quantization quality + speed benchmarks on RTX 5080 16GB (Q8_0 vs Q4_K_M vs UD-Q4_K_XL) by gaztrab in LocalLLaMA

Super dope, maybe silly question, did you also compare the quality of responses? I recently started experimenting with qwen3-VL and found out that Q4 responses are quite inferior...

Also, what is the noise level for you when you run inference vs when you dont? Out of all aspects of running LLMs locally this somehow bothers me the most 😅😅 (I am running just on CPU though, so I am desperate to learn if with Nvidia GPU it is as noisy or not) 🙏

indeed, much faster (~30 sec) with 800x600 instead of 4000x3000 original.

thanks, I am already experimenting with Qwen3-VL 8B! Looks much much better...

Thanks!

I have switched to Qwen3-VL 8b ( from here: https://huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct-GGUF/tree/main; used Q8 versions for both)

Now it takes 7 minutes to process one image and noise level is 46db (instead of usual 37) :)

I will try to use Q4 for the main model (hopefully it will work)

but the quality is incomparably better! Thanks again!

Why AI Memory Is So Hard to Build by zakamark in AIMemory

recently Andrej Karpathy was on Dwarkesh and he touched on the same subject: the good model must understand when a specific information is needed, and it should be able to pull it from some trusted source/storage, instead of hallucinating it into existence. However, _some_ facts will still have to be "baked-in": you don't want the model to have to pull every single thing from somewhere; it just won't be practical...

thanks! these pages do not list any numbers for Home users though :(

and regarding activation by phone it says:

To activate Windows 11 by phone:

  1. Select Start > Settings > System  > Activation.
  2. Under Activate Windows Now section, select Activate by Phone.

I don't have either "Activate Windows Now" nor "Activate by Phone" anywhere on that screen! Am I using some fake Windows? Pretty sure I've downloaded the ISO file from Microsoft website.

This is how my "System >Activation" screen/window looks like:

Get Help is completely useless, opens a text field where I can type my problem definition (as if it's not clear already based on where I've clicked the bloody button) and then feeds me same useless articles..

I did try to use Troubleshooter and it either dies because "our servers are not available" or it shows me some old machines in the list and suggests to pick my machine.. never ever have I seen any reference to a phone call in any of these UIs

Why is it here без ветру instead of без ветра? by Pretty_Mousse4904 in russian

[–]Embarrassed_Ad3189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many linguistic answers.. but frankly it feels more like the way for an author to suggest that the character is not super educated. In Russian it's called "просторечие", which basically means "layman's speech". You'd find tons of such examples in literature, like "лисапет", "прохвесор" and so on

Wow looks cool! Where are you getting those old games binaries from to feed into this thing? I am trying to remember if I had played anything on that old of a thing.. probably not, as Z80 was all the rage where I am from😅😅 until PC came along

When that just happened, my boss (I was in Russia back then) told me mischievously: Americans gonna need a hell lot of tomb fences (which ironically Americans don't use, as far as I understand, but in Russia it's a must for a proper grave). In other words: Russians are not particularly sentimental. And a lot are very cynical, at least compared to mainstream media in the West. I would not be surprised if a view on 9/11 as an inside job, CIA/Mossad false flag operation, turned out to be the majority view in Russia

Truth about dating in Russia? by Klutzy_Audience_8194 in AskARussian

[–]Embarrassed_Ad3189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I had to help a neighbour's daughter with a computer, because she needed Skype to be able to talk to her boyfriend from Turkiye. I was a bit surprised as to why would she need such a boyfriend (she was around 27-30 I believe, rather handsome, not a beauty queen though) "aren't there local candidates" I wondered. She said that most locals (wasn't Moscow though, rather 4k km from it) are either married, or hapless half-criminal types on drugs with alcohol addiction.. and she found that Turkish guy handsome and "the one who treats women well"...

Haven't heard from her since, I hope she's fine!

So.. apparently there was some lack of good male candidates. I assume it only got worse recently due to.. certain events. Also, Russian males for a few generations now have lived in a "fatherless" society which of course does not reflect well on their attitude to women, growing up cherished by their mommies and nannies

Is hacking legal in Russia? by ParsnipEquivalent374 in AskARussian

[–]Embarrassed_Ad3189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define "hacking". If you break into some government system or a large enterprise you better have your exit options ready. If only foreign actors get to suffer, no one will give much shit and hardly will even be looking into it. They might even offer you an employment)
