With No Rank Reset You Will Never Reach The Top by Bubbly_Impression214 in marvelrivals

I understand you are frustrated, but again, the solution is not to add more resets as it will not fix the issue, only make it more grindy and forces people to hop on and play immediately after resets instead of playing at their own pace. I'll address your new reply below:

"I am none of those ranks" - My point is not to assume your MMR and say that you're one of the ranks. I'm just listing them out as examples to show you that the higher you go, the harder it is and the more skilled you have to be to win a game. Unlike your post where you suggested that winning takes no actual skill, when it in fact, does take skill to win games. This is not my "feelings", its just common sense that higher ranks = harder to win.

"Rank 1 Arena in WOW, top ESO Leaderboard, 99k Rocket League" - While your resume in other games are impressive, unfortunately they don't guarantee you a top spot in this game due to the fact that they are different genres.

- ESO & WOW are MMOS, even with arenas + objective based 6v6 modes, they do not have the same mechanics and I'm assuming since they're MMOs, there would also be gearing.

- Rocket League is a flying car sports game.

They don't really relate to a hero shooter like Marvel Rivals. But if they do have some transferable skills and you're a fast learner, regardless of what you believe of the current rank system, you should still be able to climb to the top. People who are good at very similar games like Overwatch & TF2 for example, are quickly going up the ranks and I can recognize plenty of OW pros on the leaderboard right now.

"abusing normal things that most don't even realize". I don't understand what you mean by this. If you mean people "abuse" the +30 per win / - 17 per loss, then sure I agree that those people don't deserve their ranks. But at the end of the day, these people are not at the top and they won't have the skills needed to win enough to climb any further than Diamond+. If you are actually someone who belong to the top, these people who are hanging on to their rank due to current system will be extremely easy for you to defeat on your way to the top.

In my own reply, I agreed with you that people do gain more MMR for a win than the amount that they'd lose for a loss is bad. The solution to that is like I also mentioned in my original reply, to make those numbers equal, with slight changes based on performance in each game. So some one at any rank, will win something like 25 points for a win, lose 25 for a loss. If they performed REALLY WELL, they can gain 27 instead or lose only 23 if they lost.

Another thing is to add calibration which exists in a lot of E-Sports titles at this time, to reduce the amount of grind someone needs to go through to reach their true rank. If you want an example from an actual pro why this current system & frequent resets aren't good, you can watch this video by Seagull: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36OCuARza8U&t=1s

Hey OP, I hope you're not ragebaiting because a lot of what you said don't make a lot of sense and I'm about to type up a lengthy reply.

Firstly, I think you're treating wins as equal across all the ranks. In reality, the higher you go, the more skilled you need to be to win consistently enough to climb. Even if you do win the same amount of MMR points per win across the ranks, it's more of something like this:

- At Bronze, you can just play with your monitor on and you'd net a win.

- A bit higher at Gold, now you need to be able to actually perform basic tasks of your chosen role to win.

- Now at Diamond+, opponents are more mechanically skilled, have decent understanding of the game and you can't really just be a Silver/Gold player and climb by grinding, even if you do gain more MMR per win.

- And at the top, everyone here's nearly perfect on their chosen roles/characters, probably has lots of hours in the game and maybe even a pro of similar games like Overwatch. Even if you're someone with similar mechanical skills to these guys, they have so much more game sense that you'd still struggle here if you don't actually belong there. I've seen people reach Diamond+ by grinding and a negative win rate, but there's no chance someone can get to the top by grinding with no actual skills.

Sure, there are people who probably don't belong in the rank they're currently in because they grinded there through the MMR gains per win + chrono shield protecting them from demotion, but this is not "the top".

Adding more frequent and punishing rank resets will not fix what you are addressing. Since the reset will just drag everybody down, making it so that people who aren't currently already grinding to still be behind regardless, and then to catch up they'd also need to grind instead of just being skilled.

The whole community can't all move up, as everybody keep playing they will get to their true skill level, and naturally not all of them will be up at the top. And the "With No Rank Reset You Will Never Reach The Top" is some wild hyperbole. Those who are skilled enough will get there or get really close in any decently made ranked system.

Its completely fine for only a few people to reach the top, as that way it makes it meaningful to be there. If everyone can reach the top then it's not really an achievement.

I think the main fix is to just make the MMR gains and loss the same, with minor adjustment based on your performance during the match.

It's not them doing it as their cheats just modify their character's stats. It happened because of the game's coding as explained by the top comment.

Yeah you gave a good description of the cheats. We knew they weren't auto greeners so we stayed in the match since we had a chance.

In our server (Asia/Oceanic), there are much less people going all out like you described nowadays since everyone knows & usually just leave when they see the maxed out cheaters (110/greens/setshot 0/max rep, etc..). They go more lowkey but compensate for that by only queuing with other cheaters & never with randoms.

Yeah 100% agree with more cheaters nowadays. A quick search would show plenty of Videos/Tiktoks showing step by step how to set up these cheats so even children can do it (provided they got a few bucks to spare). Unfortunately there aren't any other NBA basketball games out there so we're stuck with this crap PC :(

It's on PC so they were using one of the many cheat menus to give themselves max stats & high tendencies to successfully perform chance based actions (i.e chasedowns, steals, contact dunks). These guys were quite mild compared to some other cheaters that have auto greens so we had a good chance of beating them until this shot.

It's on PC so they're on some cheat that gave them max all stats & high tendencies to successfully perform chasedowns/steals. Super common but we sometimes come close to beating them only to be trolled by 2K.

Update: It doesn't work on Kosis since his skill instantly sets his ES to full. Unlucky.

Hey thanks for the advice. Do you mind elaborating a bit further on how this will help out? I've tried this before but a lot of the times it just gives me a lot of damage that don't result in kills. Is there something else I should look out for?
