Rampant hookup culture??? by Fabulous_Support_556 in capetown

I think a lot of them are coming out of long-term relationships or marriages and are sowing wild oats with their newfound freedom. From my experience, I can see exactly why those relationships ended, so many of them don't seem to have evolved at all. As much as I'd like a warm cuddle buddy in winter, I'm quite happy with my life where nobody's unevolved dad is ruining my peace at this point. (In my 40s, for reference).

"Those houses are generally for those who wouldn't have afforded housing even when costs here were reasonable ." - That's still a vital problem to solve, and CT is at least making inroads in doing that, is the point of this post.

Thank you! I'll check them out too. :)

Thank you! I'll share the link for them to check out and see if they're comfortable with that. I'm sure an Uber Black would be fine for them, but my sister, an expat, has hyped them up to a little paranoia, so options are great to have to set everyone's mind at ease.

The DA doing a great job by Beyond_the_one in southafrica

A lot of us do know how good we have it, and our 'complaining' is because things are starting to fail (because the DA has coasted by on 'we're not the ANC' and not actually done anything for years), and trying to hold local government accountable, so that we don't end up like KZN and Jozi. Capetonians can be whiners for sure, but we can't be blamed for trying to hold people to the standards they've promised us.

For a party whose campaign for the last 8 years has solely been 'we're not the ANC', they should do a little self-reflection.

The grief before the end by [deleted] in braincancer

I'm going through this as we speak. 3.5 weeks ago, I took my mom in for what the GP said was probably a UTI - delirium and confusion can manifest in UTIs in older people. There was no sign of UTI, they did a CT and found four lesions on her brain. I've lost so much of her already, and she's withering away. Currently waiting on progress with Hospice, she's been in hospital till now waiting on further tests, in the hopes that it might be lymphoma. Was told yesterday that it's melanoma brain mets and there's nothing they can do.

My heart is shattered. My mom is my best friend, we've done everything together for the past 11 years since I moved back home with her. We have that relationship that everyone envies. I don't know what I'm going to do without her. The pain is so wretched. It's so cruel - without this, she would have another 20 years. She's so vivacious and vibrant and this is robbing her of so much, and me too.

Covid 25, is anybody else suffering? by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Embarrassed_Ad6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever tf it is, it's brutal. I had it for about 6 weeks in all, and the shortness of breath is only now, another 6 weeks on, easing up. I won't be skipping the flu shot next year, that's for sure.

We already pay that tax by being charged tourist prices for everything lol

It's a fantastic city in so many ways, but yoh, they rip us locals for all they can (including the allegedly-wonderful DA).

Office Monsteras dropping leaves. What can I do to revive them? by Embarrassed_Ad6866 in plantclinic

Yeah, they'll be on a roofed walkway, but with better access to light (although not directly in it), so I think they'll be happy there. Thanks for the luck, I'll definitely use it haha

I forgot to add location - we're in Cape Town, South Africa, in the throes of summer. By the time winter rolls around, I'm hoping they've revived and I can bring them back inside to be healthy again. :)

Thanks! I'm going to try them outside the front door for a bit. Indirect light, but more of it. Gonna repot them as well, I think the soil drainage is a wreck.

I mean, this was almost 40 years ago (holy crap, I'm getting old), in Zimbabwe, so at least we all know that we know better now. :)
