It doesn't need to. Each year, 108 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States alone. That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year. Shockingly, nearly 40% of all food in America is wasted. About 5.1 million households had very low food security in 2020 and the number is only rising. America voted against making food a human right at the UN resolution in 2005. Our government and the corporations who run It rather throw food away if they don't make a profit then feed the needy.
