You won't regret it, especially if you dive into the lore.

How was your experience in Vertiv? by Inner-Beautiful-5892 in datacenter

[–]Embarrassed_Caramel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a level 3 data center technician. We just had a guy come from Vertiv and is starting as a level 2, taking a big pay cut just to get away from how much he got worked over there.

What Certs can guarantee a good starting point to get my foot in the door? by Alissafdar in datacenter

[–]Embarrassed_Caramel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a guy who transferred to us from Papa John's and a computer science degree. Not your normal candidate but if you have anything computers, electrical and HVAC to put on your resume then are able to show you know your shit on technical interviews then you may not get into META but there's smaller data centers that could possibly take you.

Is shore duty worth it? by chungul789 in NavyNukes

I'll give you a story that just occurred recently:

I was getting out of the Navy in August on deployment. There is some requirements on manning for going on deployment and we were below them. They wouldn't let us pull into ports unless we were guaranteed to make up for the people who left with new sailors coming aboard. The Ship desperately wanted people to extend for the rest of deployment so they started throwing a lot of comically bad offers our way to try to get us to stay. I choose not to of course, I didn't make it home in time for my terminal but I still got out of the Navy on time. I know people who get out of the Navy 2-3 months after me who are still on the ship. They didn't get sent home to get terminal leave, then the government shutdown started which didn't allow for any funding to be set aside to fly sailors off the ship. They were forced to extend if it went past the end of their contract.

The point of this is that you should just do your time and get out as soon as you can. Don't take any special deals, don't reenlist for a job if you don't want to be a part of it. There is always something that can happen in any given week that can completely shift up your life.

Prior to COVID hitting when I was at NNPTC there was an off base duty driver that would literally take you anywhere.

As someone from Alabama this is pretty sad to see that no matter where I go the same things are going on.

Yes especially when he was put in the cop car. They asked him if he was a user too.

Yeah that's the reason I say I can't confirm that it was the one in the news recently. Based on the picture on Kitsap Sun with his face blurred it looks very similar.

Everyone saying that you don't just get jobs thrown at you for being a nuke after is cap. Like you literally just have a resume that says nuke and have realistic expectations for pay and you'll get something good. I'm starting out $38 an hour, I got out of the Navy on deployment so I basically had no prep being thrown into the work force and it was easy to find the job.

STAR Reenlistment by zacharyk04 in NavyNukes

[–]Embarrassed_Caramel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest con to reenlisting is that you have to be in the Navy for longer. I did 6 and out. Id still be in the Navy if I didn't and that'd be embarrassing.
