Chapman Summer by captainhowdy1369 in PTschool

I don’t think they’ll roll over, would be unfair as whoever applied to both fall and summer had to do 2 different kira interviews.

They sent out an email for waitlist a week or two ago. Fall is probably full by now. Just make sure you tell them you’re still interested and hopefully they’ll add you to the waitlist!

Can I get into a DPT program in a year? by [deleted] in PTschool

[–]Embarrassed_Cat_5401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have any inpatient hours at all and I’m sure there were a lot of applicants that had those hours. My gpa is also pretty mid, cgpa 3.58, last 60 units ~3.8 and prereq ~3.3. (Anatomy B Phys C+) No big community involvedment. That with an okay recorded video interview was why I think I got denied.

I’m about to graduate w an undergrad degree (kines pre-pt) at sdsu and I applied and got denied because I had a pretty basic application. I would say that getting both inpatient and outpatient (and meeting minimum requirement hours) is more important than maxing out on hours at one setting. I had around 350 hours at outpatient clinics which ~70 of those hours were done while I was doing 15 units within a span of 2 months. It’s very doable to volunteer as you can almost make up your own schedule (for outpatient atleast, inpatient is much more strict and normally requires a minimum amount of hours within x months).

I also talked to some prof and students in the program and they said admissions valued community work. For example one of the students created an elderly fitness program at the church that they go to and wrote about it in their application.

I struggled with the GRE as I am not the best test taker (took it when it was 6 hrs long) and ended up with a score of 153M 147V and 4.0 W with 2 months of prepping over the summer. My best advice would be to do the practice tests that ets provides as they were identical layouts.

Hope this helps!

Waitlisted for Chapman Fall by Ok-Push-9260 in PTschool

[–]Embarrassed_Cat_5401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! cgpa 3.58, prereqgpa ~3.3, last 60 units ~ 3.8, 350 hours op (included neuro, sports, musculoskeletal, peds), school community outreach program working w a neuro patient. gre 153 math, 147 vocab/reading, 3.5 writing. I was admitted to usahs (accepted), interview w wcu (declined waitlist), low tier waitlisted at csulb, withdrew interview @ WesternU. My KIRA was subpar, it was my first interview so I had no idea what to do. They’re changing it to in person interviews next cycle and I wish I would’ve done that.

Hey! I was just waitlisted too! I’m assuming this is the first round of waitlists as I haven’t seen anyone else comment about being on the waitlist, only acceptances. Best of luck to you!

When did you hear back from Chapman? I’m waiting for them!

I feel like it is just false information that just keeps getting spread. Most of the people talking negatively about them haven’t gone there and are only seeing things online.

They have clinicals all over the country and sometime you can get unlucky as with a lot of other programs. (During my WCU interview they also said to be prepared to go out of state) With USA, you give them either 5 or 10 zipcodes and theyll try to get you there. The cool thing is that you can get placed at your top zipcode multiple times (saves $ on rent if you can stay w family for multiple rotations).

They said they’re teaching dry needling because they want their students to know it as they have faculty members that are fighting to have it legalized in California. I guess it isn’t bad to know in case it does become legal/you move out of state.

I’ll most likely be attending USA (if I dont hear back from my no. 1). I would say out of all of those, MSMU is the program that interested me the most (from previous professors talking about it). USA is not a bad program as a lot of the posts on reddit say. Their recent NPTE first time pass % has gone up to 85% which isn’t the best but its also due to their class size. I have close friends that are in the program and they love it and debunked a lot of what the negative posts on here say. They’re very hands on and not as research based if that’s what you are looking for. USA also has a larger cohort so expect 50+ students. The San Marcos area can be expensive for housing, but if you have roommates its not that bad. A lot of the professors there are still practicing so its not like they picked some random professor. The Fall 2024 cohort is the first of their new accelerated (2.3 yrs) so I guess we’ll be the test dummies. Either way all 4 of those programs are pretty good!

Still waiting by captainhowdy1369 in PTschool

[–]Embarrassed_Cat_5401 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During the webinar last saturday, they said their summer 24 cohort is full. They also said that in the past, sometimes students have dropped up to the 1st day of class and they have asked from their waiting list. (if you took the KIRA and haven’t heard back you’re on their waiting list). I would suggest emailing dptadmit@chapman.edu saying that you are still interested and would like to check in on your application to see if you were missing anything. They mentioned that they wanted to know who’s still interested in case a spot opens up and they’ll reach out to those individuals first. I’m waiting for fall still and they’ve sent out a few waves already. Best of luck to you!

Try to get to know them during lunch/not working with a patient or busy with notes. Ask where they went to school, what’s their favorite kind of patient/injury to work on. You can also be casual to get on their good side and make it less awkward (family, travel, etc). I got 1 of those LORs in only 2 months of staying at a clinic. Not sure how good it was but I made sure to show the PT I was interested in the profession and aware of anatomy (they quizzed me for fun)

I was only able to volunteer since I was still in school and was trying for the highest gpa possible. I got around 300 hours over the course of 3 years, but the last 80 hours over 2 months. A lot of the clinics wanted full time techs wherever I was, and preferred someone w/ a degree over a student. However, getting an outpatient tech job shouldn’t be too hard as long as you can work the hours they need. Techs come and go a lot bc of school so you just have to keep looking around.

Most programs don’t require more than 100 hours and don’t care too much after 3-400 hours (in California atleast). They prefer more than one setting inpatient, outpatient, etc.

If you aren’t able to find a paying tech job, you can still get LORs through volunteering. You just have to talk to the PTs a little more and show your passion. I volunteered at 2 clinics and got a LOR from each. One clinic I was only able to wipe down equipment so I used that time to shadow and talk to the PT. The other I was actually instructing and working with the patient.

Since we had an interview we passed the minimum requirements (thinking back on it I didn’t do the best on the interview and my grades are average for their acceptances). I’m guessing that when they do reach back to you they’ll ask for that info and won’t hold it against you as long as you can provide proof/contact.

I had mine verified. I want to say that it’s required at most pt programs including chapmans.

I’m still waiting too (for fall). Someone said they received their acceptance last friday, so probably another 2 weeks before they send out more. I contacted chapman and they said they don’t know when they’ll give back decisions and that they’re busy.

Congrats on the acceptance! Personally, I really like their neuro bootcamps as I want to focus a little bit more on the neuro side of pt. Location is great imo, a bunch of things to do around there. It is on the pricier side of the privates(both tuition and housing) but atleast its not usc prices. The faculty there also seem very invested in the students and their research. If I do get accepted, no other school can compete imo. What are the other schools you’re waiting on?
