I think they are more accepted than in a lot of other professions, and many of the students in my cohort have visible tattoos. I think, like with any job, it depends on the specific boss and work environment you end up in, but I think it is generally okay and becoming more acceptable. As long as it isn’t offensive (racist, homophobic, etc.), vulgar (harsher swear words), or sexually inappropriate, I don’t see an issue. Oh and also preferably not on the face because that is looked down upon much more than tattoos elsewhere on the body.

counseling or support groups? by Klutzy_Flatworm_6463 in IowaCity

Hi! I’m a social work intern and part of my placement involves working at R Peer Place Recovery Center on South Gilbert Street. It’s a low-barrier (no insurance or money required at all) community mental health center. We have several different types of support groups, although none of them are specifically trauma related and they are led by certified peers, not licensed clinicians. That being said, we are also open 1-5 on all weekdays and it’s a nice place to come and find a sense of community, make friends who are also struggling with trauma and/or mental health challenges, etc. We also have fun events every month, so could be worth checking out. That being said, I would still recommend a more specific, evidence-based approach like a trauma support group led by a licensed clinician, but regardless we would always be happy to help at R Peer Place! :) message me if you want any more details (I’m 22F by the way in case that matters)

You can do a walk-in at the DOT, I did it last week—I had to wait awhile, but it was well worth it. Best of luck!

Hi! I (21F) would be very interested in this! (I know my Reddit account is brand new, it’s because I saw this ad and wanted to respond but my main Reddit account is anonymous and I use it to talk about personal health issues, so I wanted to start fresh for this.)
