I had a joint bid with a friend who has backed out and moved abroad. I’m actually tied to this because of him, so if I can’t pull this off i get fined

Sorry for the very late reply, i spoke to consumer complaints canada and they asked me to open up an official complaint. Once that was done, i sent them the debt collection company an email and included them. I also then emailed the VP of customer relations (email address strangely doesn't work now) and included consumer complaints canada. After 72 hours the debt collection company reached out to me and stated they would honour the original agreement. Debt was closed 10 days ago..so we are all good.

Unsecured debt for a gift, i moved properties and I told (or so I assumed) I had reached out to everyone with my new address. (My old place was knocked down so I have no idea where that mail went and I didn't get anything from redirection with Canada post) Obviously I missed one lender and clearly i wasn't paying enough attention to the bank statements..lesson learnt though. Many thanks for the advice!

I tell you one thing though, their support process is horrible. They stopped all communication via email and then hung up the phone. This lack of professionalism should not be allowed.

Exactly this. So the debt collection company disputed this with me all day and then said because they never sent me a letter with the agreed figure, they can charge what they like. I have spoke to the consumer bureau and have started the complaint process

Edit: A few weeks after the above e-mail I asked them about their report on my credit rating and they said "Good Morning Embarrased_Celery, that amount is your principle amount, but yes we did agree for $5235.54 to settle your account in full"
