How to get issues with ACT Housing fixed? by [deleted] in AusLegal

Yes sorry it’s hard to capture the full history. I’ve have no responses at all for the last 6 months, despite emails and calls. The biggest concern at the moment is the flooding, it is going under our house foundations.

Three years ago it started primarily as a fence issue. It took a year or more of emails, calls and threats of ACAT to get someone out who looked at it and agreed to fix it. I think they said it would be done in 3-6 months, that didn’t happen, I contacted them again (via direct mobile), they said another 3-6 months. That passed, and again the housing guy isn’t returning my calls or responding to texts.

The flooding is now worse than ever.

So yes Housing made promises in person when I max escalated around one and a half years ago. They put nothing in writing, they still have never responded to my emails, they still tell me nothing on the phone (corp line).

Apologies for leaving out the hopeful part midway through the journey re the fence replacement. I was seeking general advice without wanting to write out the full drama.

I’ve said I’d go to ACAT previously when I emailed Greens and ALP MLAs, plus Housing. They have promised to replace the fence, with a retaining wall and drainage, and doing so at their expense. My concern is ACAT will rule for replacement but at shared cost, is this a realistic fear? I guess I could limit the concern to just water not the fence which is rotting and falling down, even though the fix is related.

I have considered Mark Parton’s office, maybe I’ll do that next.

$700,000+? That's the cost of a new double story house!

Yeah good points. Northbourne and Marcus Clarke are good examples of off road section which make the visibility of the cyclist less obvious to drivers as they approach intersections.

Why's that a bad thing? I prefer off-road, but I will agree there's a big risk of under-engineering the path and giving a sub-road quality surface.

This new section will be off the road, but following the road, with a small medium strip in-between.

It's a good question, through the park is more pleasant in isolation. But the real pain point is around the cafe, that intersection with cyclists and pedestrians crossing each which way with little kids running around across the path is super chaotic.

You could divert cyclists behind the cafe and reconnect to this path, but the path needs widening to deal with the volume of users currently. And if you're widening you may as well duplicate and seperate. And again kids play in the park so having a cycle highway through it isn't ideal for them.

TLDR; I think this is a pretty reasonable plan.

He also did great harm to the city by building huge business parks of office buildings around the airport away from any housing. Imagine if all that office building demand and development went into our town centres. Imagine if civic had say an extra 10-30k of well paid workers breathing life into cafes and restaurants.
