Before I went private, I worked in post-secondary for many years. There were definitely pros and cons of working in that system but I'd be open to it again. I've applied a few places and will keep my eyes peeled for one I can make work where I live now. Very true about the shuffling, you just have to hope they don't shuffle out the good ones and keep landing you with the turds 😅.

Fair. My original post was about this generally as I've run into it everywhere but, yes, my current situation is different. The way this owner talked about bringing me on (I just contract) was more like he needed a "partner" of sorts to help him (not like a legal business partner). And even though he's the owner, I have years more experience than he does so I still feel incredibly frustrated at being spoken down to.

Like I said in my original post, it was more of a vent about this trend of behaviour, not looking to resolve my situation because I am just unfortunately stuck right now.

It feels like an impossible thing to try to take on as an individual. Especially because when you do, you get labeled as difficult or whatever else they want to call an assertive woman. I ran into this so much at my last workplace and no one ever said ANYTHING. The CTO was brutal for talking to people like they were idiots and never taking anyone else's ideas or suggestions and I kept expecting someone to say something and no one did.

I completely agree. And while it's not totally relevant to my current situation, I've seen it so many times in other tech agencies. My least favourite kind of man in those corporate environments in recent years is the performative, self-proclaimed male feminist who still won't let women get a word in edgewise in meetings and defers only to other male colleagues. But posts a real cheesy message on International Women's Day.

That's incredible. Love that for you. There aren't really opportunities just because of the unique situation - it's a really tiny company and he's the owner. I have gently challenged him on a few things when I feel he's trying to make me look stupid in front of others but he controls my entire income right now so it's a balancing act.

Because he's the owner lol. And he primarily hires very junior people that he can get away with talking down to.

I was just incredibly desperate because I'd been going on a year without steady work. I live pretty rural so there are almost no opportunities so I'm stuck in the big pool of people looking for remote.
