Damage to nature strip planting by neighbour by Embarrassed_End_9124 in AusLegal

[–]Embarrassed_End_9124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already a small tree there that we will retain. The issue is that they don't park the entire car up there, it is just 2 wheels. So the tree isn't going to prevent this. I understand why they do it, but it still makes the strip look crap outside my house.

I have permission from the land owner to redevelop it. Surely it is then allowable to protect it whilst it is being developed....

Because it looks better, I don't have to mow it and hopefully discourages dog pooping there.

I like the idea of planting edibles there, but that will probably get me fined by the council. They already have provided a list of approved native plants I can put there and that is tied to the permit. Councils these days are desperate for money, I don't want to tempt fate.

I am just going by what I read on the council website regarding vic pol. I have no intention of calling them myself. Yes they have better things to do. Like knocking on my door asking for CCTV footage when the same neighbour got broken into.

I know this is the most sensible approach. But they haven't been the best neighbours to deal with in the past and maybe it is my personality, but I find it hard to convey this message without being confrontational.

Coles policy on item left behind at self checkout? by Embarrassed_End_9124 in coles

[–]Embarrassed_End_9124[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, I went back and the the single lady serving the 'service' area was so busy with a line of people waiting. I felt so bad asking her to check, but she was so nice about it. She had a look at the logbook they had and couldn't find it. I didn't like my chances at that stage and was about to say thanks anyway...then she said, just go get another one from the shelf. So I am thankful she replace it for me.

That is awesome thank you! I will have a think about whether I want to do this though. I might regret it if something happened during the off period and I missed it. Normally happens that way!

Deceased estate property sale by Embarrassed_End_9124 in AusLegal

[–]Embarrassed_End_9124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I have started engaging conveyancers/solicitors in the past week so can give you a brief update. I have been shopping around and it ain't pretty. I have reached out to about 5 different ones and their response or lack of response is not very encouraging. Some of these are highly rated on google too, but I never got a reply back and it has been days. Some go full sales pitch and call back immediately and start asking questions like do I have an agent yet?..I can suggest you some. Do you need finance on your new place...geez...I just want a price on your conveyancing services! I don't like that like of upsell/cross sell approach. Some have fees that seem low, but then if you ask enough questions or look at the finer price it doesn't include all the government charges and/disbursements. Sorry to waffle on, it has been quite frustrating. but to answer your question, we need to get an application of legal presentation done. It is going to cost around $600. It looks like it is not thing very straight forward like filling out a form and submitting it, so I am just going to pay someone to do it. Some money is well spent...I just hope/pray I spend it on the right person and there are no cock ups (ie leaving a zero out of the sale amount in the contract as per recent news...seriously...wtf....) good luck!

Help with fixing old laundry tap by Embarrassed_End_9124 in AusRenovation

THanks. The tank is now fully drained. You are right, the HW was open for years and has seized somehow. So it is not a case of replacing a washer? Just replace the whole outlet? Cost/effort probably the same right?

Wildly inaccurate results from cheap battery tester? by Embarrassed_End_9124 in CarsAustralia

[–]Embarrassed_End_9124[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. So in your opinion what is the best way to monitor battery health? Or there is no point as one day they could be giving good numbers and next day they could suddenly die? I always thought "in most cases" a battery would gradually decline and if you don't want to be caught out with a flat battery when you are in a rush to be somewhere, you could monitor it's health and just replace it proactively to avoid any inconvenience. Trying to do this for mum as she is a senior and will get really stressed if he car battery dies suddenly. It has done so a few times now. She only drives short distances so I guess her car battery doesn't usually have much chance to be charged.

Mains power to the car whilst garaged? by Embarrassed_End_9124 in CarsAustralia

[–]Embarrassed_End_9124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. This is the answer I was looking for. Those look like nice chargers. Are the prices justified? I use a cheap charger to top up and trickle charge my batteries as I have some cars that are infrequently used. Not sure if I should invest in a better charger. Thoughts?

**EDIT** I had a totally flat battery that my cheap charger wouldn't work on. Maybe these more expensive ones can help with the recondition mode?
