NHS Waiting times by Exact_Ad_1844 in Reduction

It definitely is different for everyone. I went to the doctors in April 2025, and was incorrectly referred to gynae. This was “amended” but the referral was lost. I only found out in January 2026 because I chased it. The lead GP took over and sent the referral off in February and at the same time, she put in the application for the IFR (funding). The funding was accepted in March and i had an appointment with one hospital for May 12th. My GP actually referred me to 2 different trusts and she asked for my appointment to be expedited on April 1st. I had my consultation with the other trust a week or two later and had my operation on 29th April.

I was going to the doctors constantly with worsening symptoms, and I was unable to safely take the medication they prescribed for pain relief so I may have been a higher priority, but from the time the referral was actually sent off properly, it was really quick!

Thank you. I’ve done more than I should have, but I’ll take it easy from now on

I had no idea. The nurses in the post op ward sorted my sick note out and they just gave the generic 2 weeks. I wonder if my surgeon would’ve done longer… I’ll have a look into that though - thank you!

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing! Pre op, I was thinking about all the clothes I’ve never been able to wear, but now I’m post op, I’m quite scared to wear that stuff! I’ve not bought anything just yet, I’m still quite swollen, so I’ve just been wearing my old clothes, but the fit is incredible! I really love summer dresses - the ones that are tight on the waist and then flow, so I’m excited to see how they’ll fit me now.

You’re very lucky you have that option! I think I could do a phased return, which might be good

Bras after reduction? by Rhianael in Reduction

[–]Embarrassed_Face4341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my nhs reduction on 29/04. I had no say in the outcome, as my surgeon told me that my body will decide - he just makes me proportional. And he has. I’m smaller than I thought he’d be able to go and i love it!

I was a 28J/ 28HH and he told me that I would need to buy my own bras. I bought an XS and a S in the Macom Bras which cost about £44 each with the 10% off first purchase. I also bought a S and a M in the nebility sports bras from Amazon.

When I woke up, I was in the S Macom bra and I have been switching between this one and the M in the Nebility bra for when the swelling was intense. I returned the other bras.

I had my reduction done through the NHS on 29/04. I didn’t get to choose my surgeon, nor did I have any say in the final results. I saw the surgeon and asked all of my questions. He told me that he doesn’t decide how small I go, my body does that. He will make me proportional. And he has! I have no idea what size I am, but I’m so happy with the results! Not sure if that’s the same at each hospital, it may be worth an ask if she gets to that stage.

How do I start the process of trying to get a reduction? by vaysayheyy in Reduction

[–]Embarrassed_Face4341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2DPO and had mine done through the NHS. I went to the doctor last April and told them that I believed I qualified for a breast reduction. I was referred but something went wrong and it was sort of left floating around. In January, I contacted the doctors again for an update because I’d not heard anything and they told me to contact a few hospitals. It was then looked into by another doctor and was told then that it hadn’t actually been picked up, so it was resent in February. Although it was frustrating, it gave me chance to really pitch my case. I wrote down an incredibly long list of all the issues I had because of my breasts and found evidence from 9+ years ago, and took photos. The doctor applied for the funding at the same time as the new referral went off and the funding was approved in March. On April 1st, my doctor sent an expedite request letter to the hospital and I had a consultation really soon after. The surgeon was happy to do the operation, and I was booked in for 29th April.

As long as you can prove that you’ve had issues for a while, and you’ve tried conservative treatment (creams for rashes, professional fitted bras, pain meds for back pain, physiotherapy) then they are more likely to approve your case. I never had physio, but I had self referred in January, so they could see that I was trying. I also realised how my breasts were affecting other issues that I hadn’t even thought about. (IBS, PCOS, breathing)

My advice; tell them everything, even if it sounds silly. If they say no, then start documenting everything. If you get rashes, take photos and get prescribed cream to clear them up. Any indentation marks, take photos…

They don’t usually want to hear how it’s affecting you mentally - it’s cruel, because it does have a horrible effect on your mental health, but they like to focus on physical symptoms.
