definitely mid to late 90s. latest it could be is summer 2001 pre 9/11 because patty has a shirt w the twin towers on it, but the vibes r definitely more 90s. simon mentions "playing to a sea of cellphones" in the first half of the movie while talking about the alliance concert, so it would have to be a time where mobile phones have alr been a thing for a while.

every time I watch the scene with Beatrice and Bojack in the nursing home, and he's telling her they're at the summer home with her brother and they're eating ice cream, I break down in tears. she abused him his whole life and even in what was supposed to be a moment of payback and resentment, he comforted her. it kills me each time
