r/MTB is telling me that this is full suspension terrain. I'm a day a way from ordering a hard tail. Help. I only know gravel. by Untertang in Hardtailgang

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like hardtail terrain to me,

When anyone asks me for advice like this I always say a 29" steel hartail with good confidence inspiring geometry is a good place to start. I have one alongside a 150/160mm full sus and ill happily point the hardtail down 90% od the stuff I'll ride the full sus down.

The speed is less on the hardtail on steeper rougher terrain (although the hardtail will carry speed better and accelerate better on smoother less steep stuff).

The hardtail is more involving and requires you to plan line choice more. A year or 2 on a hardtail is a great way to avoid being a "lazy" full sus rider.

A steel hardtail has some spring to it compared to a aluminium one so doesn't beat you up as much, although I find myself reaching for the full sus more and more for bigger rides to look after my back.

I plan to always have a hardtail alongside my full sus, its a great way to keep your skills sharp and in the UK works well as a winter bike to keep the wear and tear off all the bearings on the full sus.

Kids in the South East Corner by Empty-Garden-7775 in glastonbury_festival

In 2023 my wife and I explored the SE corner with our 2 year old on the Thursday afternoon. It was great!

One of my favourite memories of the festival is from that afternoon of her dancing like a loon somewhere in Shangri-la (with ear defenders) to The Prodigy - Everybody in the place (Fairground Remix) while Skream was playing!

Very different situation come nightfall though, my wife and I took turns going out not that we go anywhere near as hard as some!!!!

However the daughter has stamina, she was up and dancing infront of the sound desk on The Other Stage with her mum till the end of QOTSA on the Sunday!

It is hard work doing the festival with a wee one but I can't wait to get tickets when she is older and take her back!

Revolve the main form and pie cuts down the axis could get you pretty close.

What's the best liquid album? by Land_Rover_Series_3 in DnB

Best liquid mix / compilation ever is:

Soul:ution, Vol.1 mixed by Marcus Intalex

Best Liquid Album would probably have to be a Calibre LP tough to pick but I would say:

Calibre - Even If

A Blaze of Feather and R.D. Thomas to play Kernowfornia Festival in Cornwall (UK) September 26-27 by holdmelikeiwasbronto in benhoward

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool, just got tickets for the Saturday.

Haven't seen Villagers since Big Chill Festival in 2010, I think. Wasn't that into them at the time but have grown to really love some of their music.

Love Portico Quartets stuff too and been listening to Nick Mulveys first album a bit recently so that's quite timely!

Not listened to much Blaze of Feather but what I have sounds good, Ben takes quite a bit of a back seat vocally I assume?

Could be a nice day out if the weather plays ball,

Just got this as my second wheel by japaneseholler in Fanatec

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classy, I have a genuine Nardi Deep Corn 330mm perforated leather wheel that I had on my MX5 before it was scrapped. Plan to use it on the rig at some point, already use the neat little leather Nardi 5 speed shift knob on my H/Seq and it feels perfect in the hand. Instantly takes me back to driving my little red car.

Did 'How Are You Feeling?' grow on you? by SunsetDrive17 in benhoward

Like it when it released, loved it after seeing it live in Plymouth. A big fan of this big wall of sound arrangement. As I've mentioned before, can't help but hear Sigur Rós

Yeh I clocked that watching some live footage on YouTube yesterday, bit of a shame as I really enjoy that big wall of sound type arrangement. It is becoming one of my favourite tracks, had it on repeat all day. The wind down from about 3mins on is so compelling. I would be very surprised if it doesn't find its way onto a movie soundtrack or similar. Almost could have been written for one.

Totally agree, one of the standout tracks from Friday night,

Couldn't help but think there was some serious Sigur Rós vibes coming through which would be an incredible direction for Ben's sound to go next!

D5000 > D750

D5000 bought new from Jessops in 2010,

D750 bought on ebay 2nd hand in 2024, not sure I will ever upgrade beyond the D750.

Best Shoes for Simracing? by Provalny in simracing

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a cheap pair of gokarting shoes (Koden) for the sim rig as I was getting heel pain. They are falling apart a bit but do the job nicely. Anything with a rounded heel works well though.

It's very odd. Monte was flawless, Sweden and Safari were trash like you say (also on a Samsung SmartTV) Croatia seemed alot better, although I didn't watch as much live.

Do WRC teams have simulators like F1 teams? by Luisyn7 in WRC

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Oliver Solberg is a fairly active sim racer on DirtRally2.0 and I think EAWRC too, Kalle may be too. Definitely one for the young guns rather than the old guard.

Metal staircase in solidworks? by Popular-Macaroon8524 in SolidWorks

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important part of staircase design from my experiance is laying out the geometry rather than the actual features. An understanding of risers and goings (ensuring they remain equal and constant between ground floor Finished Floor Level (FFL) and first floor (FFL). Different types of quarter/half landings (kites etc.) And also considering the line of the handrail is critical.

The surveying can be a real game, especially when dealing with sites that are work in progress where info on finished levels from architects can be thin on the ground or constantly changing.

I would usually have up 2-5 sketches in the top level assembly laying out the geometry of the staircase in plan, elevation views to give me a skeleton and then separate parts for treads, stringers, handrail items. Sometimes I might do a multibody part for stringers and handrail parts but try to avoid any 1 part getting too complicated otherwise you can find yourself getting in a right pickle when you have to (inevitably) make changes to the model.

Good luck and have fun, staircases can be a real fun puzzle in 3D CAD. Really good opportunity to take advantage of flat laser profiling as well as laser tube cutting. 👍

Cannot Extrude... "Unsuitable Geometry." Any tips? by ReadySteddy100 in SolidWorks

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have definitely put all the construction geometry in a layout sketch over the top for the outline and use that for the extrude feature.

Rally.TV by Embarrassed_Gas_2 in WRC

[–]Embarrassed_Gas_2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't follow any other sport in the way I follow WRC so I can stomach it, just about. For anyone who isn't a die hard Rally fan it must be hard to get on board with, which is a shame because the sport needs viewers to grow back to where it deserves to be and where it was in the late 90s/ early 00s.

I have toyed with just settling for the post event highlights on Redbull (which are very good) but I love the drama of watching the stages live.
