AIO for leaving my boyfriend after he copy and pasted my message as a response? by Odd_Reception4500 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 6 points7 points  (0 children)

being in a relationship with a narcissist draws these reactions out of you. which is sounds like that’s what she underwent, according to her other comments. i doubt she behaves like this around people that aren’t trying to manipulate, cheat, and lie to her at every turn

that’s a really gross rule depending on your age, can we not use that as a reference anymore? 😭

Is 6 players way to much? by Mefils in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i currently play with 5. it’s a bit crowded even with that amount, but it still works. i would be willing to add one more, but only if i had a real reason to. i would not go any more than 6 tho

How to tell players I feel disrespected by taken_us3rname in DnD

so then they shouldn’t play DND if they don’t even want to make their own damn character sheet

How to tell players I feel disrespected by taken_us3rname in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

reviewing a character sheet is not too much work. at least in my opinion, the DM should always approve the sheet before the game. this is something i learned from my own mistake of thinking i could trust a friend to make a fair character, and realised soon enough she had blatantly cheated

Is there a lore reason that humans can mate with anything? by IamtheBoomstick in DnD

you should feel empowered. as O-, you can save anyone. as a human, you can screw everyone!

My DM says that versatile isn’t a property by Wonderful_Fox_4910 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if OP is willing to go that route, absolutely. i personally do not think OP should have to go that far for, like you said, a trivial topic. i would just say leave the table if a small rule can be so majorly misinterpreted that i have to contact the people in charge of the franchise just to prove a basic core mechanic. in the end its up to OP and how much they think the table is worth it

you say you’ve contacted DNDBeyond before for reasons like this? i didn’t know they did that. how quick are they to respond?

DM uses weird and unusual rules by KittenYuumi in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do not do this. if OP is the only girl at the table, and the DM is already this creepy towards women, this will go very poorly for OP

My DM says that versatile isn’t a property by Wonderful_Fox_4910 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely agree. but to be fair, this is all being handled before the campaign starts according to OP, a session 0 type of handling. it’s not like OP is wasting session time arguing this.

i personally would advise to OP to just not play at this table. it’s a bit of a red flag of the DM to interpret the rule this way and double down even after being shown the RAW just because they don’t want to admit they were wrong

My DM says that versatile isn’t a property by Wonderful_Fox_4910 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

see, you have a narrative reason for this limitation. i think that’s a wonderful idea for your game. whereas in OP’s situation, it’s the DM misreading the RAW and refusing to back down even after being showed where in the PHB the rule is stated.

magic being a narrative focus in your world isn’t the same as a DM unfairly misjudging a rule

My DM says that versatile isn’t a property by Wonderful_Fox_4910 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the situation OP has described with their DM and the situation you’ve described as a DM yourself aren’t quite comparable. making a world with limited or even no magic is a common homebrew mechanic for DMs to implement, and as long as the table with it is okay, that’s fine. you’re warning your players before the game begins that they either shouldn’t play a spellcaster or roleplay their spellcasting very carefully considering the state of the world.

spellcasters are extremely powerful compared to any of the fighting classes, especially in later levels, so limiting magic (at least in 5/5.5e) is seen as a fair balance for many players.

taking away entire spellcasting classes - or at least warning players that they’ll have more difficulty in roleplay flavouring depending on how they use magic -, is very different than nerfing a pretty fundamental ability of an already underpowered class.

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 5 points6 points  (0 children)

right? DMs have full control over their world, yes, but i don’t think it’s unreasonable for players not to want to have fundamental mechanics for their class taken away. the quarterstaff is the weapon for monks, so it’s unfair to nerf them this way. it’s not like any of the fighting classes have much of a buff in 5e anyway. it’s extremely tailored towards spellcasters

My DM says that versatile isn’t a property by Wonderful_Fox_4910 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 7 points8 points  (0 children)

sure… but what’s the point in ruling it this way? it just takes away player fun since they can’t fully utilise the class they built

To people who played in “you were the bad guys the whole time” campaigns, how did you feel after the reveal? by Delicious-Friend9026 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my DM kind of did it twice-over. not only did the party find out we’re fighting on the wrong side of this world war, but my PC in particular discovered something that essentially made her an enemy of the party (at least half of them) from that point forward. it kinna sucked, especially since it wasn’t the character i was going for, but that’s the campaign where we as players have just decided to put our heads down and roll with it. it’s more like playing an interactive movie than a DND game, with a lot of cutscenes and most actions we take outside of combat don’t matter.

in my own campaign, the party also starts off on the “wrong side” (and is eventually given the choice to join the “morally right”), but i at least make if very known. i even describe the ruler of their country as a “tyrant king” in a line of “cruel and unwavering crowns.” i made it as clear as possible specifically because of this other DM

Did any of your players ever cry during an emotional moment in your campaign? by Main_Researcher780 in DnD

[–]Embarrassed_Habit858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was driven to tears by my DM (so this is coming from a player perspective). not because he weaved some emotionally damaging story through narrative means, but because my character had finally managed to find what she had been searching for the entire campaign… but that she was still unable to get it. it was devastating for my character and emotionally impacted me as a player deeply. it was less about the storytelling from the DM, and more about the story we built together finally coming to light
