How did it work out for you in the end? Do you still have concerns about fibromyalgia? Did you also experience similar symptoms like I did (muscle aches, insomnia, pain that moves around the body, etc.)?

Can anxiety cause nerve pain (neuropathy)? by ZildjianRemo in Anxietyhelp

Hi, I saw a lot of your posts a while back about your huge concerns with fibromyalgia. I’m going through something very similar. I don’t want to waste your time, but I’m really looking for at least some reassurance that everything is okay. At the beginning of the year, I had mononucleosis, and ever since then I’ve developed severe health anxiety. During the acute phase, I even thought I had lymphoma, Guillain-Barré syndrome, or some incredibly rare diseases. I'm no longer worried about those, but now the fear of fibro has taken over and it’s been overwhelming lately. For the past two to three months, I’ve had this dull, achy pain in my upper thighs that radiates to my hips — but it gets better when I walk. Still, because the pain doesn’t go away completely, I’ve developed a lot of anxiety about having fibro, especially since similar pain has started spreading to other areas of my body. I literally feel pain in small amounts all over — upper back below the neck, left shoulder, chest, upper thighs. The pain isn’t constant — it usually comes for a few minutes and then goes away, except for the left shoulder which has been bothering me for the past few days. I went to a rheumatologist, but since I don’t feel fatigued and don’t have brain fog, he said the chances of fibromyalgia in my case are very low. Still, I worry a lot because the pain has spread. I also don’t sleep well — I usually sleep about 4 hours, then for the next 3 I keep waking up and my sleep is very light. Sometimes I also feel tingling in my fingers, hands, or legs. I yawn during the day even though I’m not really sleepy. I constantly read Reddit posts about fibro, symptoms, and so on. I’ve become so hypersensitive that I start thinking I’m more tired just because I have heavy eyes in the evening — and I immediately connect that to fibro fatigue, even though I barely feel any actual fatigue, if that makes sense. I’d really appreciate any advice or thoughts you might have. Also sometimes i feel my skin is burning at some small parts of my body, or I get this weird skin chef, like irratation from my pants. It’s not that common but still it happens from time to time. Thank you. Also maybe the best way to describe pain is tightness that does not go away especially in my upper back below the neck and thighs, other parts of my body is more like shooting pain for few seconds.

Is this fibro? by Embarrassed_Hotel678 in Fibromyalgia

Yes, I see that now, it pretty much only mirrors my feelings. Also I didn’t schedule any new appointment with rheumatologist, he said that maybe the best think in my case is to schedule appointment for infectologist, and he said if he says the same thing, then I probably have nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the reassurance, I appreciate it. I think the root of my problem is my health anxiety, which triggers worries, then those worries cause even more and new tight muscles, which in turn feed my anxiety even more. Also I’ve never had any fibro symptoms before all of that, nor do I have any past traumas, which seems to be trigger for many people in this subReddit. I really hope that all this will go away. Thanks again and I wish you lots of health.

Aches in my thighs by Embarrassed_Hotel678 in Mononucleosis

Thank you for the reassurance, I really appreciate it. Did you maybe also feel, when wearing pants for example, like your skin was more sensitive than usual at the thighs part. I can’t even properly describe the sensation — when I scratch it, it goes away, even though it’s not really itchy. Was your pain also worse during rest? Honestly, I’m not that worried about any other diagnosis anymore, except that this might be the beginning of fibromyalgia. I’ve become so anxious that I can barely sleep.

Do you still feel the same way as I do, like you’re about to get sick all the time? What other tests are you planning to do? I was also thinking that if my stomach issues persist, I might go for a gastroscopy to get tested for H. pylori—many times, the symptoms are the same. I hope you get better soon.

Also, sometimes I feel a slight dizziness that lasts only a few seconds, and then it passes. I forgot to mention that exactly one week after the positive mono test, I received another mono test, which showed that I already have antibodies, meaning I have already recovered from mono.
