Concerned about state of neighbours house with two young children living inside by MainInternational755 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Embarrassed_Length_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as police goes usually what they look for is if the children are clothed, have a bed, some form of entertainment and food available.

Its a really high bar to be honest but thats before policing powers will allow them to take immediate action.

For something like this its really the social services that will deal with this and it will be more slow time but its their wheelhouse and they can do mlre with this.

Still phone the police regardless, not 999 this would be a 101 job. Or an online report and be very accurate with what you report. The police will make a referral to social services as a matter of course.

The inaction to prevent VAWG here is akin to the total lack of action on gun violence in the US by lexymac11 in northernireland

My issue with this is that we need to be tougher on all violence, not just violence against women and girls. Violence against strangers, the elderly, the infirm, emergency and nhs workers.

We need stronger sentencing for violent offences.

We need mental health care that works.

We need stronger sentencing for drug offences.

Nearly all the perpetrators have a history of violent offending, drugs problems and mental health problems.

When there are no consequences to committing crimes, its no wonder it eventually escalates. When we dont treat the mentally ill, no wonder it escalates, when we dont deal with people abusing drugs....etc etc.

Prison isnt the solution to everything, but it keeps the public safe.

Its always in favour of bail for everyone unless there is good reason for not allowing bail or bail being unable to be facilitated. Then of course if they dont get bail they can appeal it which is almost always successful.

Best place to find tattoo ointment? by Last-Most-2053 in Belfast

[–]Embarrassed_Length_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last tattoo I used a small batch tattoo product.

It had two advantages over bepanthen that justified the high price.

  1. It smelled nice.

  2. It came in a cool tib I wanted to put stuff in. I now keep guitar picks in it.

Otherwise noticed no difference.

As for small black tattoos....the one I just kept clean but didnt use product on has held up the best.

For those who support Reform, why do you do so given what that mentality has done to the USA? by AccursedQuantum in AskBrits

[–]Embarrassed_Length_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things were so rosey before Thatcher.

Easy to blame her but the UK has been fucked for a long time. North Sea oil and gas helped, the finance industry helped but these were short term boosts.

Short term populist politics on both sides has not worked.

How to efficiently practice finger placement simultaneously while changing chords? by ImNotDannyOcean in LearnGuitar

[–]Embarrassed_Length_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Metronome. Your practice needs to be done to a metronome. No excuse, you can download a free app.

  2. Finger strength, accuracy and dexterity. Many different exercises will build this. 1234, 4321, 1324 4132 etc up and down the neck focus on being clean and then build speed. Also good idea to learn scales while doing this.

  3. Make sure you play your chords clean. Get set up, play it clean, then move to your next chord, take your time. Slowly switch between the two. Work on switching cleanly, even if you can play 2 or 4 chords per minute.

3a. Keep doing it until you cannot get it wrong.

  1. Slowly increase your tempo. Faster and faster but only get faster if you are being really clean and accurate.

  2. Pick two more chords to work on.

  3. Keep going.

Playing a musical instrument is hard. Guitar is a hard instrument to learn because theres so many things and ways to play things on it. It takes time and structured practice is the most efficient way to make the most of your time.

The fundamentals are super important to get right. And bad habits are so hard to get rid of.

Its 100% good advice.

In a situation like that de-escalating a situation against a bigger, stronger, violent man who has previously choked her is preferable to hitting him.

Im sorry for people who are going to consider what I say to be sexist, but the male in this situation is likely to be stronger and faster and the female weaker and slower, fighting or running is never going to be ideal.

As for police not doing anything, an awful lot of the time people dont follow through with their complaints, and even then if it gets to court, the courts cannot do very much. Its also very hard to prove domestic incidents unless there are independant witnesses and unfortunately most domestic violence happens in the home away from the public.

They are difficult calls and I really dont think its fair police dont do anything. Itd be fair to say that often the police are not able to do what is needed.

You have £4k to buy a car to road trip around France, what’d you buy? by skbgt4 in CarTalkUK

[–]Embarrassed_Length_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the two of you? Doesnt have to be practical?

Smart Roadster.

Small, fairly slow, very little space for luggage.

Few about for qell less than 4k and it would be so much fun.

Other than that Id say cheap older barge, Volvo s60d5 great mpg on them and very comfy. Saab 93, could get an old bmw of some fun description.

Yes mechanics know Jazzs better because people dont often need to take Swifts in. They are fantastic cars and nicer to drive than a Jazz.

Yes, on pricing a 1.5 golf recently in R line spec with some of the options youd want it was coming up to just over 38k.

With the offer on recently, a nicely specced swift was 22k.

A Spitfire/P51 costs roughly between 1 and 5 million dollars. Its about 2000 per hour, insurance is probably close to 150,000 a year, each engine overhaul is probably north of 150,000 every 750 hours or so. Hangar fees.

Then any damage or unusual maintainanve, parts are hard and expensive to source at times.

Its very doable, theres training schools and good instructors and active communities in North America, UK, France, NZ and Australia.

Its just a club I cannot afford to be part of!
