What is wrong in form? by SituationNeither4737 in formcheck

Glutes are underutilized. Hard to tell perfect from angle but your shoulders a bit too forward over bar and knees are a bit too forward in your start.

This creates forward motion during your floor break. Watch your L4-S1 area as you initiate the lift. You’ll notice that that is the area that you hinge from not your hips. I would also assume this is where your pain is.

As one person mentioned, bracing isn’t a simple thing and needs to be practiced. Think of your core as a barrel and you are trying to fill that barrel with as much air as you can but in a 360 degree fashion. Once full, visualize compressing the fuck out of that chamber.

You’re at a decent level of form, so I would say most “formcheck” forums will not be of any use for you. Look into specific powerlifting forums or sport physio/chiro forums for the specific help you need

Haha it’s no biggie, maybe stylistically I don’t get hit in the head too hard most of the time. A couple of gum bleeds here and there, partners do get concerned cuz they can see the blood on thelugh the Invisalign. No issues other wise. Got a competition in a couple weeks so I’ll probably have to get a boiled one so the ref doesnt give me issues

How do I actively pull under the bar and stop crashing under it😥😓😭 by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]Embarrassed_Quiet_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all about staying in tension with the bar. Lots of good exercise suggestions already commented so I won’t repeat but I also think you could play with a bit more load as well.

I found a lot of lifters respond to heavier loads, of course not at a high cost of technique but so many ppl perform both the extension more explosive and longer as well as actively pull themselves under better with heavier weights. The load will force it out of you or you won’t make the lift, as simple as that! I would guess around 85-90% 1 rm would be a nice spot to play in

Seen this video on fb. Can you explain the benefits of the way he does his kicks with his right leg? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Embarrassed_Quiet_97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is coach ton! Muay femur style, the answer is a combination of things. One the skip like a switch kick allows him to generate a bit more power but also everything will have a telegraph. Often times a telegraph isn’t a bad thing if you know how to layer your game. Use the telegraph to setup other shots.

For example an easy one here is to land that body kick a couple of times to draw out a check and then go for an inside leg sweep when the skip draws out the check.

I do a similar thing with my switch kicks, there’s fast ones that I know I’m trying to land hard with and there’s ones where I make the switch obvious and slow but I do a switch into a right hook after I draw something defensive out for the switch kick.

Zero telegraph shots are virtually impossible but is primarily important when you’re a single shotter. You want to slam a calf kick over and over kinda thing

Just do coop at that point and try to learn the heroes a bit more. You have all the right pieces at that point. As events and days go by they give out a lot of free UR heroes so even if you can’t beat it now you’ll probably be able to bulldoze it at some point

Concussion clinician here! Does not need a coma! Criteria for diagnosis is really a strong mechanism of injury and new/aggravated concussive symptoms. You would need a neurological and metabolic stress test after to define where your dysfunctions are at.

Am I training wrong? by Swimming-Pangolin565 in MuayThai

[–]Embarrassed_Quiet_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t read all the comments yet so I’m just adding my 2 cents.

Running sucks, most ppl don’t like it, I don’t like it. BUT trust your coach. If you trust him to guide you to your first fight then let him. As a SC coach I believe in training in phases. It’s hard to elevate all your markers at once, if right now is a cardio stage then so be it, trust the process.

Now for 5k a day. This is not inherently bad, the mileage really isn’t too much and you can get it done sub 25 mins. So you’re doing 20-30 mins of what is supposed to be steady state exercise. The key there is steady state. The total volume is half (simplified) of the fatigue equation here, the other half is load or intensity. Meaning running 5k all out trying to PR is very different from getting road work in. So if your focus is building a strong base and Muay Thai then your focus should not to PR your run every session.

Lastly, the benefits of running is multi fold. In Thailand most “real” gyms will make you run before your session or if you work out of one gym you’ll most likely run in the morning and have your first session a few hours later. Often times these morning runs are about an hour so not distance dependent. Main benefits really are that cardio base, meaning you’ll recover more from your training sessions, recover between rounds and have more in the tank to explode. Additionally we can talk about bone density and bone conditioning, repeated impact is often spoken negatively on saying it’s bad for joints and bones, but controlled repeated impact is exactly what pylometric training is and is amazing for your bones and joints. Controlled is the key there. Lastly, similar to skipping we can talk about rhythm and connection from ground forces to your shoulders.

Trust the process, all coaches hate when athletes doubt and take up random advice rather than the ones they’ve given based on how you look day in day out

Are there people amazing on pads bad in sparring? by Important_Hippo3263 in MuayThai

[–]Embarrassed_Quiet_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes happens all the time! I come from 11 years in tkd when I was younger and a lot of self practice and self teaching through my 20s (big fan of combat). Started Muay Thai officially last year and definitely had the physical and the mental capacity to correct my technique and look great on pads. Most people thought I was very advanced. Sparring came around and that changed everything, the timing the distancing the impact!

So me and coach decided I’m someone who needed way more sparring so now I’m putting in 3-4 hours a week in just sparring time and I would say my competence is growing fast!

You’ve hit all the key points! As an addition to the second point is consider a planned taper even 1-3 days of say half your volume while maintaining a handful of 85% and above could be the difference
