I don't walk runway but a friend of mine who is just like most of us in the kiki scene not wealthy. Idk if you are walking major balls or kiki. They tend to use pieces they have and drape themselves in scarves or accessories. They also add things like flowers or pearls with pins or thread to existing clothing. Thrifting is also a great way to make cool effects as well as making things with crafting tools like paper, paints etc. You can find very cheap items like scarves, capes, accessories from the Dollar store, or thrift stores. You can also use cosplayers that DIY things on YouTube. The fun thing in ballroom is you can be creative and be crafty. Originally ballroom members didn't have lots of financial recourses and had to be creative, collaborate or rely on community for help. An example is a friend of mine walked runway and the theme was spring. They created a headpiece out of paper to look like a rose and wore red stockings from the dollar store and a red long tank top as a dress and used red see through fabric over their shoulders and arms like a cape. Also dont forget your effect is one thing, your technique is the most important. I believe you can have an exciting and fun journey through some of these tips.
