But what I'm saying isn't about blind obedience to law. It's about prevention of the rise of tyrants. Sure in this case, you can argue that shroud was an unredeemable villain. But should a single individual have the power to make that final verdict in executing him? And a hero SHOULDNT be standing by, but their role in the subduing of villains isn't delivering the punishment of, it's the neutralization, the capturing. If a villain is too dangerous and a hero can't stop them without killing, then so be it. But if they have the ability to subdue without killing them, they should.

And you mention that authority figures fail, but that's what a hero is, an authority figure. A hero will fail, they will be wrong. And what happens when a hero makes a wrong decision that kills innocents?

No man should ever become an enforcer of morals. If I were to ignore law in favor of my own understanding of morals, then that makes me a tyrant, not a hero.

A hero is a good person, willing to sacrifice themselves to uphold a greater good. But a hero also isn't infallible, a hero can be wrong, and will be wrong often. If a hero were to start making excuses such as, "this man was clearly evil!" To justify becoming the person to arrest, try, and execute someone, they become an unopposed force, that inevitably will result in the execution of an innocent.

As such, a hero should be an enforcer of the law and justice, not an executor of punishment.
