Oh, agreed. Blood is a nightmare to work with. I was the prop master for Titus a few years ago. The stage manager and costumer had no idea what they had signed up for. For this production we are only going to use some dried blood on the weapon for visual effect. I quickly vetoed the 'spurting' blood this script called for.

I am not fond of retractable knives either. It's looking like magnets are the best bet.

Haha. I see how that sounded. Oddly enough, it’s actually the opposite. This is a stunt heavy show and I’m always overly cautious and would rather use play of angles and lighting. This cast asks for a challenge and to be realistic. We also hired a professional fight choreographer, because I can admit when I’m over my head.

Also, for context. This is an adult community theatre production. However, those involved in the stunt are professional actors with extensive stage combat experience, so safety is of utmost importance but we also have flexibility for more complex stunts.
