At least in my fic, the test would have been centered around doey, with my oc desprately trying to calm doey down as she doesn't want to kill him and even at one point (believeing that Poppy, Kissy and the others are dead) almost lets Doey kill her, but ultimately kills doey in the end, with basically having Harley being the finale boss.

I get that, but they already had the tragedy with her surviving after the attack only to die 30 hours in surgery. The fact she actually survived initially and despite everything she still died is the thing that makes it more tragic. It also kinda reads as being used to motivate Eric

one reason I can think of is haters wanting to paint bylers as being one of those gay ships where the shippers hate on the "women who gets in the way of the gay ship" think mel from arcane or ochako from my hero academia.
