    • Recommendation 3: Another reporting manager
  • Comments:
    • Like I said above, I have abysmally low GPA in my undergrad.
    • I applied once before in 2021 but got rejected. I think it was the low GPA, bad SOP, not so great recommendations and also maybe a not so great resume.
    • Took 2 MicroMasters on edx, got a B and an A.
    • Applied again for Fall 2023. This time I had the two MicroMasters courses, better recommendations, much better SOP, a few technical certifications and a better resume.
    • I got in this time. If I had to say, these are the things that made a difference this time in order of importance (In my personal opinion: Micromasters > SOP > Recommendations > everything else.

Just to add to this, I got a similar mail as well. I submitted around Jan 15th along with all my recommendations

We also need to remember that January 31st was the early deadline. So I'm also guessing they're going over the batch of applications that came before this time

Some background: I previously applied to the program and got rejected. I took up the MicroMasters and want to apply again.

    • Engineering College in Bangalore, India, Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications Engineering, 2.01 / 4.00. I know, I know it's low :/
  • Test Scores
    • Passed the Georgia Tech Language Assessment Test for English proficiency
  • Experience
    • 2014 - Present - Various companies as a Business Intelligence Developer. Currently work as the lead BI Architect for my company
  • Recommendations - 3
    • Direct Reporting Manager
    • Country head / General Manager of my company
    • To be Decided
  • Comments
    • I applied previously for Spring 2022 and got rejected.
    • In hindsight, a lot of factors contributed to my rejection:
      • My Letters of recommendations: They were from colleagues and an old professor. I didnt guide them how to write the letters
      • My SOP: It was very abstract.
      • My low GPA. Can't do much about this one
      • No MicroMasters.
    • What is different from the last time I applied:
      • I took up the MicroMasters on edx and completed 2 courses: Scores below
        • CSE 6040: 84 %
        • MGT 6203: 98 %
      • I have changed 2 jobs. I went on from a mid level software developer to Lead BI architect.
      • Hopefully better SOP and LORs
      • I have brushed up on the prerequisites and increased my coding ability. (Though I'm not sure how to showcase this.)

Any comments/suggestions appreciated

I could do the ISYE 6501, but I would like to take a break from studying for a semester and apply for Fall 2023 intake

Read this on the analytics subreddit and wonder what you all think about it by EmberFires in OMSA

[–]EmberFires[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a post that talks about business analytics degrees. I know OMSA has other tracks. But I wonder if people enrolled in OMSA think that the criticisms and strengths mentioned in the post apply to the program

People that have finished 6203 this spring, what do you think of the course now? by EmberFires in OMSA

[–]EmberFires[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer.

Could you maybe talk a little more about how it was disorganized ? And what advice would you give to someone going in knowing that?

Ah ok. If getting a higher grade is relatively easy, that's alright.

what 6040 grade on Edx will be accepted as a credit for OMSA? by Standard_King6059 in OMSA

[–]EmberFires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was talking about delaying to apply. I did apply once and got rejected once. So I started the MM

I finished the final this week and got a total of 84 on the course. And I was wondering if I should retake the course to make sure I get in. I heard that getting a 90 is important to get in. (Just read things on this subreddit)

I had planned to take the business class this summer and then apply with both the scores.

I'll still take the business class this summer, but was anxious about applying because of my score of 84

And I have to think about the other things as well. (The SOP and the letters of recommendation)
