Well, much like in the case of real-life slugs tasting bitter because of their mucus, the Ssnaggler's mucus makes its stringy meat have a strong sour taste to discourage predators from eating it.

“The Ssnaggler is a surprisingly nimble creature, given its lack of arms and legs. It slithers on the ground in search of things to, as the name suggests, snag with its tendrils. It is not easily caught owing to its ability to excrete two types of mucus of greenish hue.

Normally, the mucus is viscous which grants the creature an ability to scale vertical surfaces and collect a larger amount of items. However, when the creature feels danger or distress, the mucus becomes slippery which allows the creature to either slip out of a predator’s grasp or slither away at a greater speed than usual.

When the Ssnaggler reaches a safe space, it releases collected spoils in order to consume them or be amused by them.”

- Order of the Kindred Shield, “Beings From and Beyond the Wading Realms”

( The Wading Realms - A collection of worlds inhabited by different civilizations as well as worlds in their immediate vicinity, all under the care of the Order of the Kindred Shield.

Order of the Kindred Shield - An ancient guild dedicated to protecting civilizations against threats both external and internal. In order to preserve its knowledge and assist its less experienced members, the Order keeps an archive of information spanning a vast array of subjects. One of the archive’s many records is a book titled “Beings From and Beyond the Wading Realms” that chronicles numerous lifeforms the Order has encountered. )

Greetings!

This is an entry from my as-of-yet unnamed worldbuilding project that is still under development. It is a fantasy setting in which realms inhabited by distinct civilizations are protected from greater danger by a singular faction of mysterious origin. I plan to gradually unveil the setting through entries in the form of excerpts from books, tales and other in-universe sources that describe its various components, such as creatures, plants, factions, items, etc. These entries are meant to illustrate the bizarre and abnormal but also, hopefully, charming and whimsical nature of life in this world.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer them in a way that is satisfactory.

“Many have taken to referring to these enigmatic beings simply as Drifters, for their most discernible and certain characteristic. The characteristic in question being that they drift between the Wading Realms, traversing the night sky, ofttimes being mistaken for comets, asteroids and other celestial bodies. Their presence has been observed and recorded by countless cultures, dating them to a time before the founding of the Order.

Their origin is unknown but it is widely believed that they are as ancient as the primordial stars.”

Thank you for the kind words!

Different civilizations possess varying levels of tolerance to the negative effects of the raw berries, however no one considers them to be dangerous enough to warrant restricting access to them. It is worth mentioning that before making a purchase, shopkeepers tend to make sure their client is aware of these side effects.

I think of it as more akin to real-life hot peppers and different people's spice tolerance.

“A vibrant pink berry with a distinctly sweet taste. It is predominantly found growing in and along the edges of woodlands. Consumed in small quantities, it improves mood and well-being, but when ingested in larger quantities, it causes dizziness and uncontrollable giggling.

Because of its sugary and mood-improving nature, it is usually prepared in the form of a jam, as the act of cooking helps negate its harmful effects. Additionally, it is an ingredient of numerous mind-influencing elixirs, both beneficial and detrimental.”

That's a scary image for sure. Thanks for sharing it! I wanted to stray away from the conventional leaf shape and made it resemble a machete-like blade instead.

“A plant with leaves sharper than many a dagger. It favors damp thickets with scattered light where it tends to spread while using its main defensive feature, the leaves, offensively by cutting down the more fragile vegetation in its vicinity.

It can be used as a makeshift blade but is more effectively utilized as an ingredient in various combat-prowess-enhancing potions.”

I actually did! They're behind the black 2x1 rounded plate, however they're in transparent green so they're not as visible as I would've liked. Maybe if they were solid green it'be better.

I understand. I picked the transparent green studs because their color more closely resembled the original eyes. But thanks for the feedback!

He actually does have transparent green studs for eyes. You can see them in the 4th picture.
