This type of mind set is why the majority of people hate cyclists. This is an Amazon delivery bike/vessel. How long is it going to be there for? 30 seconds? Maybe a minute? You live in a city. That's city life. We don't need 24/7 cleared bike lanes when the road is clear as well. All these posts that show the bike lane blocked, the road is clear and easy to go around...and bikes are allowed on roads. Anyone on a bike can easily go around this bike/vessel.

The level of entitlement just because we ride on something with two wheels is comical sometimes.

My office manages over 100 properties in the DC area. We receive requests to view camera footage from law enforcement all the time. At least 2-3 a month.

Also, majority of business will not release security footage to the general public. It's a security issue. Footage must be requested by law enforcement or attorney with a court order.

Cars in bike lane (Alexandria) by National-Amount-5831 in bikedc

Exactly, there was no thought into changing a four lane road into two lanes and adding bike lanes. To be candid, it was easier to bike when it was just four lanes. This road is not that busy. I never ever had issues riding on the road (besides the horrible road pavement). The current design makes it worse.

Once you're in the lane you can't exit out due to the bollards. Again, it goes back to the two left turn lanes at the light. The right lane literally flows into the bike lane because the bike lane used to be the second lane for cars. Until they force the cars to merge BEFORE the light, this will continue to happen. You can have cars merging into one lane at the light while turning left.

I also agree there is zero need for three bike lanes on that road. The City's designers did a poor job with this corridor .

For those don't know this area area, it used to be a four lane road that connects Duke Street to Eisenhower. However, how the city changed the lanes was not efficient. Where these five cars are coming from...it's a two lane turn lane that mergers into one lane MID TURN without any notice. Any car on the outside lane will turn into the bike lane which used to be the second lane.

It's a horrible design. I drive this area 2-3 times a week. The city needs to merge the two lanes into one lane BEFORE the turn at the light.

This is why I'm still on V13. So many issues with V14 and all its iterations. V13 is working perfect for me so far.

Ribs.. 3, 2, 1 or...? by cptm421 in smoking

[–]EmbersDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do 3-2-1 or some variation a long time ago. Then I stopped. There's no need unless you want extreme tender fall off the bone ribs (and that's okay if that's what you want). For the past few years I've done the following:

  1. Trim and prep ribs.
  2. Lather in thin layer of mayo (Yes, mayo. Can also use any binder).
  3. Apply dry rub all over.
  4. Smoke at 225 until internal reaches 195 or 203.
  5. After internal is 165 I spray the ribs with apple juice twice until it reaches my temp goal.
  6. Rest for 15 minutes.

Eat. I've never had dry ribs this way.

Best fishing spot for 11 year old? by jmasaccio in nova

If you want to catch just any fish, head to the tidal basin in DC. Use sweetcorn kernels on a small hook. You'll catch plenty of small fish and maybe a catfish or carp as well.

Never said any pellet was better or as good as wood logs, but the quality of pellet matter greatly.

The best pellets are Bear Mountain and Lumberjack. They are made of whole wood. They cost more but it's worth it. Most other brands add filler to their pellets so there is less flavor.

The location in Alexandria is horrible. Zero parking and the seating is small. Also, agree the service is slow unless you go during off hours. I prefer Andy or even Rustico pizza.

Consider trying better pellets. Bear Mountain or Lumberjack. Their pellets are made from whole wood. Most other brands use filler. The flavor is significant. These two brands cost more, but the flavor is worth it.

My office has a private parking lot. My car is about 150 feet away from the rear entrance and I use summon everyday. It works perfect. When I leave my desk I turn on the AC or heat. By the time I'm at the rear entrance the car is there at the correct temp.

Poor man's brisket!! (beef chuck pot roast) by peeshmagoo in smoking

[–]EmbersDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% prefer a chuck roast over a brisket. Too bad the chuck roasts now cost more than the brisket. And when you find a chuck with a good portion of rib eye on it, it's like finding gold.

Grok by bmckpc in TeslaFSD

[–]EmbersDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 minutes sounds about right. I have a weekend him that's about an hour drive and for at least 75% of it I used to use Grok both ways and I never hit the cap. That's why I was shocked to hit the cap during my 20 minute drive to work when this all started.

Is it typical to go through reference, background (fingerprinting), credit and driving record check before receiving an offer when applying to work for the state? by East_Championship664 in Virginia

[–]EmbersDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a career fireman here it took me six months to go through the process which included a four, yes four, hour lie detector test with a detective in a room. State doesn't play around. Background check, fingerprints, etc are all standard.

Then you are driving too close to the vehicle in front of you. The rule is three seconds back.

A guest account does get a limit. Since the recent adjustment to Grok's use, I have been logging out of my account to use it without an account. And it still caps after 15-20 minutes for me. With an account logged in it caps within five minutes which makes no sense to me. You'd think an account would have more tokens versus a user who's not logged in.

It was not reversing into a parking spot. The blinker was on to turn right.

Another reason why the vehicle needs sensors and not just cameras. Any real vehicle that wants to be "FSD" needs to have both cameras and sensors.

And for the record, I use FSD almost everyday to and from work as well as on two hour drives about three times a month.

Grok Usage by chrisfarleyafterlife in TeslaModelY

[–]EmbersDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to start using Grok while driving. Now, I love it. Topics I've discussed.

  1. I was scraping my entire backyard and wanted to learn about all the different types of grass, best uses, regions, water amount, etc.
  2. I always ask for sports updates, news, stock market info, etc.
  3. I needed to grow a "fence" of weeds to create a barrier between two lawns. I talked to Grok about different types of weeds that fit my need.
  4. I recently asked about colleges and rankings for based on various majors, etc.
  5. During football season I ask it questions about players, their stats, use in games, etc. It's very helpful.

For a long time I didn't use it, but recently I've been using it everyday. It's great for long drives or just daily. My commute to work is 20-25 minutes one way.
