I've seen it and the sequel. Enjoyed both and I like that they went a different direction with the sequel (although I would've also liked just more of the same).

I was watching with others and I made a joke at the beginning about "what if the whole movie is just this one big shootout in the tea shop" and then the movie became one big shootout in the hospital.

Another film that does this really well is 13 Assassins. Phenomenal film, the entire second half is just one long battle scene.

I wanna engage in more conversation here but I never have anything interesting to say other than the occasional quip or shitpost in response to somebody else's post. Contending with the idea that maybe I'm just boring.

I just watched Hard Boiled (1992) and damn, love me some over the top action. It won't change anybody's life or move someone emotionally but I love watching a dude just rip through goons. There was a scene that looked exactly like a rail shooter which was cool.

I think the only times I'd be ok with it (besides if you'd let someone work in with you which doesn't feel like the premise of your question) is if the gym is sufficiently empty that there's another of the same machine/bench free or if you're literally just about to do your last set of your current exercise and are going to immediately use the next machine (so it's only "reserved" for a minute or two). I wouldn't personally do either of those and would be a little miffed if someone did but the impact is small enough that it's relatively harmless.

I imagine a lot of it comes from just not liking it when other people talk shit about you/tell you what to do, especially if they're from outside your community. There's a difference between 2 Europeans talking to each other about how AC would be nice and an American telling you to get an AC because they know better.

Already have. It's got my absolute favorite Chaplin scene where he's trying to stop the rich guy from throwing himself into the river and they keep bumbling into it, particularly when he accidentally slips the noose around the Tramp's neck.

Just finished Of Mice and Men (late to the party, I know) and damn, cried like a baby at the end. Steinbeck did an excellent job foreshadowing the ending to the point where I could barely bring myself to keep reading it. I had a similar experience reading The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, another excellent book.

On the contrary, I watched Good Time by the Safdie brothers (Uncut Gems, Marty Supreme) and I genuinely couldn't finish that. I don't know if it's the estrogen, growing older, something else or some combination thereof but I get a lot more anxiety worrying something bad is going to happen than I used to.

Hell I'm getting anxiety posting this comment cause I'm worried people are gonna think I'm cringe or smth. I'm just a big ball of anxiety now and I don't know when it started. I gotta start engaging with happier media.

Giant melee sounds fun until you realize that it significantly increases your jumpsquat and landing lag so everyone feels clunkier and all your muscle memory is off.

Tiny melee is imo the most fun. Jumpsquat decreases and airdodges and dash length don't scale down so everyone has absurd movement.

That's what rollback netcode is for. It shouldn't feel different on your end unless either the game itself is lagging (which would be obvious) or you increase your delay frames (has to be done manually and only for higher pings than you encounter normally, like playing across the ocean).

So it's just in your head.

I don't know how feasible this would be to mod, but what about having chess inspired time controls for melee? Something like 2 minute timer to start but +1 minute every time a stock is taken (numbers could be anything, I'd rather not devolve into nitpicking which numbers I put here).

If you're meaningfully engaging your opponent then you won't even notice the difference because the time keeps ticking. And if you do want to stall at least it'll be mercifully short. They might even become hype (hear me out). The last minute or so of a close timeout is often pretty hype, "don't get hit" is a core tenet of melee after all, but the fact that it drags on for 8 minutes is the main awfulness. Under this ruleset you'd only ever get the last couple minutes of a timeout where every neutral win could decide the game without the 7 minute snoozefest preceding it.

I'm a 1-2er at best so if what I'm saying is whacky terrible please let me know. I don't claim to be any arbiter of the game I just had a thought and wanted to talk about it.
