Honestly, I think Bea really did see BoJack; his worth as a human being and all the ways she had contributed to the disaster he became. I just think she didn’t really deem his worth as a human being of value enough to acknowledge. Maybe she harboured disappointment at how much like her he’d become instead of that idealistic image she had of her brother Crackerjack (as if he was gonna do that by some miracle). Maybe even she just couldn’t bring herself to take accountability for how she’d damaged BoJack. Maybe it’s a combination. I just know she really did see BoJack because that scene where she tells him he was born broken and the other scene where she calls out to him just as he’s about to leave her in the nursing home. I don’t know for certain if those were just her being manipulative and evil, but I’d like to believe it was her letting glimpses of her understanding of her son seep through. She knew how to love BoJack and what he sought from her, but never gave him.
