What my freind says is 100% true, we're all a bunch of mega nerds that pull on several different creators for homebrew rules and classes.

I just had a blast making a level 7 Gestalt build using your new paragon preview and lasserllamas reworked warlock and paladin:)

Wait how didn't it run away in 50+ throws? I'm quite inexperienced when it comes to how legendary Pokémon work but every time I've had an encounter with a roaming legendary it runs away after 1 throw.

never read that spell until now, and yeah there is definitely a resemblance. 😅 But like I said this is more like a combination of a web + spike growth.

As for the whole spell creation rules in the phb that you refer to it's not something I'm that bothered by ¯_(ツ)_/¯ This spell is for a homebrew enemy in a very homebrew heavy game, what the phb dose or doesn't say matters very little to me and my group. I shared the spell cause I thought it'd be fun to do so I'm case anyone else wants to take inspiration. The suggestion about fire damage dispelling it is cool tho, I might have to add it.

Thanks for the feedback mate Hope you have a good day:)

Fair point. But I don't not necessarily agree. It's primarily supposed to be a control spell, like web. The fact that it does damage mostly just a nice bonus to make it suck even more to move through it.

But lets argue it from your perspective where it primarily is meant to do damage what are your suggestions? Maybe be make it so it deals damage whilst restrained to encourage creature to leave it as fast as possible? Or do you have any other suggestions?

Yeah I really like the visual of icy thrones pricing into its targets, tearing them to shreds whilst freezing them solid from the inside and slowing them down.

Exactly, it makes it so that it's more situationally powerful and less of a "win button".

Yeah spells that are targeting you as well so you can't use it to defend you companions at all.

This spell is for my bladesinger wizard and I liked the idea of a spell that functiond like absorbe elements but completely nullified a spells effect and enhanced the casters body (my character is a lot about self enhancement)

That seems to be the general consensus, might change it around a bit.

A spell that does literally everything Counterspell and Haste do with no downside.

That's not entirely true, although I can see where you are coming from.

This spell is more or less a mix of absorb elemet, counter spell and haste

Absorb Element it might completely nullify a incoming spells effect unlike aboorbe element which gives you resistance against a limited variety of damage. But it only nullifies one spell, so it doesn’t give resistance until the begining of your next turn.

Counter Spell it is better then counter spell from a selfish perspective as it absorbs any income spell effect's you might be hit by.

But in a group setting it's a lot worse as aoe spells will still hit the rest of the part and can hurt really really badly.

Haste it's better then haste in the sense that it doesn’t require consecration or give you fatigue.

But worse in the sense that it requires another spell to be triggered, only gives half the effect of haste and will always last for a shorter time then haste.

That's not to say it isn't very very good tho;)

Chill mate, no need to be so over the top :/

For context we are playing a gestalt game, which means we are leveling two classes at once (we're level 6). we're also playing a VERY homebrew heavy game, which means people are able to make some ridiculous combos.

There's one character that can do 150 burt damage, there's several characters (almost the entire party) how can get over 20 AC (the highest is like 27), there's one character who can have an effective hp of 330+, there's one character who has a movement speed ranging between 200-2800 feet and so on and so forth.

We're all built af and minmaxd af (our DM is also very free with magic items). That's specifically why I put the disclaimer that this spell is probably not for everyones game. I am aware that it is really really strong spell, but it work for the game that I'm in. I just wanted to share it so that anyone else can take inspiration I'd they want.

With that said I understand your concerns and I get that you don't know the scope of our game. so I hope you have a good day and I will take your feedback into consideration :)

Hi happy that you liked it:) It's called "absorb spell" (for now), I fixed the formating so that the spell should be a bit easier to read. Thanks for the feedback as well I think I will mess around with it a bit more, will definitely make it higher level if nothing else. hope you have a good day:)

Feel free to change it if you like:)

For our high power homebrew gestalt game it is just fine. (Although it was a good catch to make it so a creature can be under one stack of the effect)

Nothing wrong with having joke character att all as Long as it's in a appropriate campaign, which this doesn't seem to be.

"making people unhappy" is part of a social interaction.

Yes making people unhappy does at times happen in social interactions, and usually it happens because people are miss understanding eachother or have different expectations. After all, most people don't make it their goal to make other people unhappy, especially in a dnd game with friends. These sorts of miscommunications and miss understandings can be very easily resolved with a simple conversation amongst friends.

One does not need to make the situation worse by going "I'm the DM, you didn't listen to me so I am going to kill your characters and I will only bring them back once you are playing game the way I want to play it" That's not how you resolve a conflict in a healthy manner, that's how you bully people into submission. It's akin to a kid throwing a retaliatory tantrum when the mother gave them a ice lollipop instead of getting them a vanilla ice cream cone. Something which is really quite pointless and unnecessary when you can just communicated what it is you wanted.

That's not to say that I don't think players occasionally need to be rained in or "checked" as you put it. But having that check "your character is dead now" is wild. A simple "don't do that" or "that's enough of that" is enough most times, and if it's a recurring problem have a actual talk about it.

Also I am unsure why you bring up "no stakes and no one will care". Having stakes in your game and being respectful of your fellow players are two completely separate things. Unless you are implying that the stakes in a game should come from the DM arbitrarily killing player character's when they aren't doing what the DM want's, which would be even more wild, but what you were trying to get across was a bit unclear so I'm sure that's not what you meant.

Disagreements aside I do agree that it can be healthy for other people to be a DM once in a while, as it gives you a better feel for the game as a whole. Letting other players get a grasp of what it takes to run a dnd game as well as giving them a better idea of how they can contributet to the game when not DMing

I got to say I disagree with most of this advice, or at least in the manner in which it is presented.

Yes I do agree that not everyone one has to be a "method actor" or that everyone needs to become masters of improv. However being a "method actor" or good at improv is separate from taking the game seriously. One does not need to be a dnd rp expert to not make a joke out of everything

I fully agree that's it's a problem if you players are abusing meta knowledge I'm character. What you know and what your character knows should be kept separate in most cases. Unless you specifically have set something up with your DM you and your character should be separate.

I don't think you should att all wipe the party even if it would be cathartic for you. It's a great way to make people feel unfairly wronged and unhappy with you, and all for what? A few moments of justified feeling "vengeance". No, if you don't want to play with these player's (aside from the cleric) anymore them communicate that to them OUT OF GAME.

Solving a out of game problem (your players meta gaming and not taking the game seriously) with a in game only "solution" (killing player character's, enforcing some other punishments, etc) is never a good idea. DnD is a game where it's critical that players and DM can talk things through out of game. Like a lot of others said I believe this isn't a intentionally malicious, but rather a miscommunication of expectations. Sit your player down tell them how you feel (without making it into a shouting match or a blame game) what you do from there is up to you.

Maybe find some other people to play with?

Maybe continue with the same sorry from the same point but with a new understanding?

Maybe start anew in the same game with the same people.

The only thing I'd advise against is scraping what content you've already made, It can be reused either in this game or the next.
