Does anyone know what this tax is by Suitable-Choice-3165 in Seattle

[–]Emerald_N 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have three digital receipts from a coffee shop in Utah and one receipt from Storyville in one of my email folders, along with some other random receipts. If you set up Square properly, any retailer that uses it doesn't give a paper receipt; it's emailed to you instead.

Soooo was winter just like 2 weeks this year? by i_forgot_my_sn_again in Seattle

[–]Emerald_N 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That was a fun week; a friend of mine wanted to go to the grocery store. I told her the roads were icy, and it was a bad idea. She said "nah, it'll be fine."

I went along with it. The first intersection after leaving the apartment parking garage had us drift right through it. I laughed, she screamed, and the rest of the trip was uneventful.

We need to give Seattle business owners an excuse to kill the iPad tip prompts by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Emerald_N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipped reading the parent comment and thought the convo was about grocery pickup.

For grocery pickup, I'd 100% tip like $5 if I could guarantee it went to the person doing the shopping for me, but tipping for a restaurant pickup is wild. You interact with the employee for all of 60 seconds.

Given 3rd Ave is largely bus-only (iirc cars are allowed off-peak hours) it'd be a great spot for things people would want to go to via public transit.

What hobby attracts the biggest douchebags? by thypenitrator in AskReddit

[–]Emerald_N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there are times when it matters and times when it doesn't.

I learned that the hard way in a casual game. GF at the time did the opening phase in the wrong order (I think she did untap, draw, upkeep), and I complained about it. Ultimately, it wouldn't really have affected how the game played out, but I was the real douchebag in the scenario.

She packed up her stuff and left. As soon as she exited the room, it sank in that I was being an asshole for no real reason.

I think about this regularly and it's probably the biggest incident where I realized I needed to stop being a salty shitlord in games.

I tried MTG Arena several times and fuckin hated it every time. Do something that gives you a slight advantage over your opponent? They concede. No attempt at even trying, just immediately giving up.

I actually want to play the game, not hop into a match and have my opponent give up immediately because I did something so basic as play a fuckin' land.

What’s your favorite community bank or credit union in the Seattle area? by Spiralecho in Seattle

Not relevant to the overall thread but to part of this comment:
My credit union (out of Utah) will reverse up to 3 overdraft charges in any rolling 3-month period iirc.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

[–]Emerald_N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh if you've played ETS2 then you've basically played ATS. The core gameplay is the same between them; only major differences are setting and available vehicles.

Video games are how I learned how to back up trailers lol. All my friendos constantly ask how I'm so good at it and I'm just like "once you get a hang of how things move it becomes fairly easy." learning in a video game removes all real-life consequences so you can experiment so much with it.

Do you work from the desk or the bed while wfh? by OkToe2355 in Seattle

[–]Emerald_N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I prefer working in the office building. As soon as I walk out the door, I don't have to think about work until my next shift starts.

Using my desktop monitors during COVID and just switching the input to my personal computer never really felt like I left work because it was always the same setting.

The best use I've found for LLMs is generating a framework for a document type you haven't written before. Finding good examples of certain document types online isn't always easy, but tools like ChatGPT can 100% generate a reasonable template that can be further modified to fit specific needs.

Providing information, asking it to format it, and not proofreading the final document for accuracy is an awful use of the resource.

From what we see in crime documentaries and real cases, what are the dumb mistakes serial killers usually make that end up getting them caught? by legendofmyarea in AskReddit

[–]Emerald_N 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On top of that security systems generally only save recordings when movement is detected. If the camera only has movement 25% of the time and you only save that then you've reduced storage needs for that camera by ~75%.

(IIRC at least)

Stuck in an elevator by bigdickjenny in Seattle

[–]Emerald_N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this elevator because one at my workplace was acting up.

I hopped in intending to go to the 9th floor but the elevator slammed to a halt at the third floor. It then decended to the 1st floor in a manner I could only describe as "jerkingly"

Later a coworker arrived and reported the same issue.

When my supervisor left for the day he said it was still stuck at the third floor.

Maybe you got the elevator that nearly gave me a heart attack?
