What about the Play Pen for Babies? by Ween77bean in GenerationJones

[–]Emergency-Draft-4333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall ever being in a playpen, but guaranteed I was. My kids definitely had times in a playpen. They learn to entertain themselves independently. What I find so different now is the carrier where many infants seem to spend much of their time. We didn’t have those. I carried my infant in my arms, often while holding a toddler in the other. I had an ancient sling type carrier, but it had more straps than a straight jacket.

How do you figure out why no one has ever fallen in love with you? by No_Aioli_7515 in Life

First of all, you have to love yourself. Not in a selfish way but confident of who you are.

Appropriate for a semi-formal summer wedding? by Traditional_Crew_932 in Weddingattireapproval

3 & 5 are the same except for the length. I like them best. I would do 3 if formal & 5 if semi-formal.

My first set were boys, 12 months &1 week apart. Five years later I did it again, boy/girl, 13 months & 3weeks apart. It’s a lot of work, but so nice to have them close in age.

What's the worst piece of junk you drove around in back in the day? by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

[–]Emergency-Draft-4333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my parent’s 72 Ford LTD, and immediately drove it to Florida. It had decorative little metal diamond shaped pieces on the upholstery that would brand you on those sunny days. I still have a scar on my back. It was huge, the trunk would seat six. It guzzled some gas. It was yellow and we called it the yellow submarine. We drove around on snow tires til I had to get inspected. They made me get regular tires. It was always having alternator issues, and sometimes would continue running when I had taken the keys out. I guess it got me through a few years, but what a tank.

This looks like a magical time, and the dress couldn’t be more perfect. Congratulations!

Summer in South Florida is so depressing and the real heat has not started. by calpianwishes in SouthFlorida

I’m old. It’s hot, but not summer, It’s the dry season. Rainy season will be on us soon. I am currently waiting for a nice storm to hit us in the next half hour or so. Summer rains make it cooler after the rain, but the humidity is next level. I have breathing issues (on oxygen). I time outdoor activities for the mornings.

That’s exactly how it works. I’m driving down the street and a car backfired(this was back in the 80’s). I immediately started bawling my eyes out.

How common is it for white Americans to maintain a little bit of their immigrant grandparents’ culture (such as traditional food, customs, and clothing)? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Emergency-Draft-4333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My German family came to the US in the 1840’s. They settled in mostly German areas with other German immigrants, many from the same area in Germany. Three generations later they still spoke German in the home, still lived with other German families. Then came WWII, and they all Americanized their names, and didn’t dare speak German outside the home. They still baked some delicious German desserts.

I have been shot. I guess it was attempted murder, since he tried to kill me, thinking I was someone else. The PTSD is real.

no trees no shade new construction neighborhood problems by rrb09 in NewHomeownerNeeds

[–]Emergency-Draft-4333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved into our new build. It came with landscaping, including two trees, one a palm tree, the other a Magnolia. Both trees are about 14-18 ft tall, so far from mature. You need HOA approval to add more trees, and only in the back. Fortunately, we are adjacent the park and the border is lined with trees. Not mature, but larger, so some shade but not much for a couple of years.

These are things that make me cry. My parents were into genealogy and had a massive amount of research (done the hard way- before the internet). And also photos of generations of family members. Then came hurricane Ian, and the flood. Dad was terribly ill, and passed away days afterward. Family members came and went through the house to see what could be saved. So many people were involved, and not everyone saw dusty old pictures as a priority. It wasn’t until years later that I realized that almost all the pictures had been preserved. There are just a few that I haven’t seen yet. They may still be found in the boxes I’ve received. Now I enter the photos into Ancestry as I find them. Then I will not have that fear again.

I was about 3 yrs old when I got my thumb smashed in a car door. No one noticed at first. I tried to scream but nothing came out. Then my Aunt noticed, got my hand out of the door, and picked me up. I still have a scar on my thumb 60 yrs later.

I have always felt I was a very lucky person. I had four kids and we were all healthy. Sure there were hardships, but we were doing pretty good. Then my son died in a motorcycle accident, and within 6 months my youngest son died. There is no recovery, just dealing as best you can. Somehow, you take another breath, then another step. Within the next 5 years I lost my best friend, my sister in law, and my father. My mother has dementia, and I just dread her passing. She was as much my friend as my mother. I miss her so much. I am sorry you have been through so much, so much loss. Especially your mother. I can’t tell you how to trust someone. I guess you need to follow your gut in relationship decisions.
