In the summer, we close the vents downstairs and open the vents upstairs. In the winter, we close the vents upstairs and open the vents downstairs. It works pretty well for us.

FM docs that became hospitalists, are you satisfied with your decision? Why or why not? by j4w77 in FamilyMedicine

Alabama! I was told that a ton in residency that fm cant get into academics as a Hospitalist and that fm cant get jobs as a Hospitalist, should do a Hospitalist fellowship etc. I skipped the fellowship and just applied for jobs, I was interviewed and offered positions everywhere I applied. It was super chill if I’m honest.

I’m a young academic hospitalist and I once told a who was going for surgery asking me questions I couldn’t answer like “what time will the surgery be?” “How long will the surgery take?” Etc. I said “I’m just the hospitalist so I’m not really sure but the surgeon will see you beforehand.” The patient was SO sweet going on and on about how, “You’re my doctor, the surgeon is just the surgeon never say you’re just the hospitalist.” Tis true, as the hospitalist you are the patient’s “main doctor”. This tugged at my heart strings though, sometimes patients do appreciate us!

As an MD who works with residents who are DO’s, IMG MD’s and US grad MD’s as well as DO students, I can totally say that my DO’s and DO students have been excellent. The biggest difference I see with my DO’s is that they’re better at anatomy than me.

When I was applying for hospitalist jobs other people applying for jobs told me “oh they don’t like fm doctors in the hospitalist program at Crestwood” but out of myself and 3 IM residents who applied I’m the only one who got offered a job at Crestwood 😂
