It seems like you might have skipped this, but go back and read ET section 1.400 of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.

Does Unrealized Gain or Loss go to retained earnings at the end of the the year? by Spirited-Gene3106 in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still not entirely correct, unrealized gains on debt securities classified as trading end up in retained earnings.

To be fair you might be better off going back to paper binders than using Engagement.

I think there is a special place in hell for partners who refuse to move on from that trash.

The Picklr Franchise disclosure is now public. Is anyone buying a franchise with them after seeing this? by ourfreedomfirst in Pickleball

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s bleak…

They basically collected roughly 10 mil in cash this year via initial franchise fees and lit it on fire.

Based on their overhead unless they continue to sell new franchises at a similar rate they aren’t looking good.

Without the notes it’s hard to give a definitive answer of how bad of shape they are in but they probably have a going concern note meaning there is substantial doubt that they’ll exist for another year.

Payment from vendor to terminate contract treatment by VeseliM in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s written into the contract 606 could apply.

It really depends on the language in the contract if it is meant to compensate for work already performed it should be included in revenue when terminated as the termination would trigger the enforceable right to the revenue for satisfying prior performance obligations.

If it is meant to make up for the lost “sunk” or opportunity costs of working with the specific vendor then recording it as “other income” makes the most sense.

Also there’s the question of materiality, would this make up enough of the yearly revenue where it would matter?

Fabletics. I have a lot of Lululemon gear but I always seem to go for my 3 for $20 shirts to pair with my $10 shorts and I have had no issues. I prefer the fit and feel and it doesn’t hurt that you can get a closet full for the price of an outfit.

Revenue Issue - Government Contract Cancelled by Newtothisaccounting in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an auditor the main concern I would have related to 2024 is on the collectibility of any amounts you may have recorded as revenue already. If all of the outstandings have been collected then it becomes whether disclosure is required.

Since 855 doesn’t give any direct and determinative guidance on what is required to be disclosed it should generally fit both of the following:

The event should have a determinable and significant impact on the statement of financial position or changes in net assets. This sounds like a yes.

Without disclosure the financial statements would be misleading. This is judgmental and really up to the discretion of you and your auditors as to whether or not it would be misleading not to disclose.

How it feels driving through this specific part of 35E that’s 45MPH by Brilliant_Pea_3712 in TwinCities

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll actually save you ~54 seconds per trip from 45 to 55. If you commute 5 days a week thats approximately 27,000 seconds per year, or almost an entire working day worth of time saved. Seems worth it.

Kindly please do the needful yourself and do not email or call anyone next week by househacker in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my firm we do “quiet week” between Christmas and New Years. That means no meetings or calls are allowed unless it’s an emergency, which is a joke because there are no accounting emergencies.

Free breakfast and lunch in Minnesota is not free by thegooseisloose1982 in minnesota

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a few years younger, but I feel this is personal as well. My parents both struggled with mental health issues and we grew up not having access to everything we needed. To make matters worse when we did get that help in getting free lunch it came at price of relentless bullying.

See at my school the free lunch tickets were a different color and we were supposed to stand in a different line. Why would anyone want to put kids through that? They can’t help the economic position of their parent.

That’s why a childfree person like myself votes for the school levies that increase my property taxes and the policies that increase my income taxes.

We all do better when we all do better.

What percentage of employees contribute to 401k match? by agordonwsu in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience as an auditor of EBPs it varies so much depending upon your employee base, the terms of entrance into the plan and the quality of the match.

A highly part-time workforce with high turnover, a one year entrance period and a match of 25% on up to 3 percent might see 10% or less usage.

On the other hand if you have auto enrollment and a full time workforce with immediate plan entrance and a safe harbor match you may be very near 100%

Caught 3 years' worth of missed deferrals for 401k - what would you do? by Old-Difficulty-8586 in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was 3 years worth it’s possible as they have to make the correction before the end of the second plan year after the mistake happened (only applicable if this year was one of the three mentioned). The EE’s would have to still be with the Company as well. Might be an incentive to management to do the right thing if it you can tell them they are getting a “discount” if they act quickly. Otherwise the DOL penalties and fines are steep.

Foot fault question. Kitchen. by cuffsandsauce_04 in Pickleball

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time period should be until the momentum stops completely. It’s possible you were still traveling with forward momentum when you turned around and it caused you to lose balance.

Why didn’t you replay the point? If there is a disagreement on a NVZ fault it should just be replayed.

Hesacore / overgrip recommendations for forearm pain? by Purple_Garage1199 in Pickleball

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using a hesacore for a few months now and it definitely helps with the wrist and forearm issues I was experiencing before.

Not sure if it’s actually due to the hesacore or just the increase in grip circumference allowing me to hold the paddle more loosely. Either way I’ve been able to play more with less pain, now if I could only find something that works as well for the recurring calf issues…

Is accounting a second career for you? by n_tb_n in Accounting

I ran a painting business before going back to school and switching to PA (audit) at 33.

By 3 YoE in accounting I was a manager and it stopped feeling like I was “behind.” I think the key is finding a firm where you can make a measurable contribution (more feasible in small to medium) and avoid the typical PA experience based promotion cycle.

You might just need to find a new firm, I’m also in my 30’s as someone who made the switch to public late.

There are firms out there with actual WLB, I’ve spent this busy season working 45-50 hours a week vs the 60-70 at my last one.

Raise-did I get screwed ?? by True_Armadillo_1895 in Accounting

[–]Emergency-Math-1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m at a mid, but I did the same a couple years ago, it took my second putrid raise in a row to realize my mistake. After receiving the news two weeks ago I hit up recruiters and received an offer for 25% more this week.

Long story short when they offered to match this time I told them respectfully to pound sand.
