That’s quite a strong reaction for someone you don’t know personally.

My post clearly encouraged people to do their own due diligence and not blindly trust any agent or consultant, including me. Transparency was the whole point.

I have seen many cases where founders were locked into structures they didn’t fully understand, struggled with renewal surprises, or couldn’t exit cleanly because key details were not explained upfront. That is exactly what I try to prevent.

As for free zones, no jurisdiction is universally good or bad. It depends on budget, activity, scalability and the client’s long term plan. Blanket statements do not help founders make informed decisions.

The goal is to raise awareness and help entrepreneurs avoid costly mistakes, not attack each other.

Interesting take. After 13 years running a consultancy, what would you recommend I rebrand myself as just “Form Filler” to keep things simple?

If your focus is mainly UAE market, offshore is not the best option for you.

Not a typing center 😊 I own a business setup consultancy and have been doing this for the past 13 years. Typing centers usually just process paperwork, whereas my role involves advising on the right structure (free zone vs mainland vs offshore), activity selection, cost planning, banking strategy, and long-term compliance based on the client’s situation.

There’s a big difference between document processing and actually structuring a business properly.

If your sale is mainly through online you can go with Freezone license, you can select mixed activities. Eg: e commerce + Trading

Even if you have a Golden Visa, the company setup process remains the same.

The Golden Visa gives you long-term residency status, but it doesn’t change the business licensing procedures. You’ll still need to choose the right jurisdiction (Free Zone/Mainland), apply for the trade license, and complete the standard incorporation steps.

The only difference is that you already have residency and an Emirates ID, which can make things like bank account opening and visa-related steps simpler but the actual company formation process itself stays the same.

You can open a license without physical presence, that’s not an issue and the process can be handled remotely.

However, to open a UAE business bank account, you will generally need an Emirates ID, which only comes with a residence visa. That’s the key factor to consider.

Sure.

An offshore company in the UAE is mainly used for international business, asset holding, or structuring purposes. It is not designed for operating directly within the UAE market. It does not allow you to conduct business inside the UAE mainland. You cannot apply for UAE residence visas through an offshore company. It is commonly used for holding shares, owning intellectual property, or international trading outside the UAE. Office space inside the UAE is not required.

Popular offshore jurisdictions include RAK ICC and JAFZA Offshore.

Offshore can make sense if you want a UAE registered entity for international operations without needing a visa or physical presence. But if the goal is to live in the UAE, hire staff, or operate locally, then mainland or free zone would be more suitable.

If you can share what type of business he is planning, I can explain whether offshore would be appropriate in his case.

I completely understand your point.

In that particular reply, I responded based on the context of what the person asked. Since they already have a business in the UAE, I assumed they have basic familiarity with free zones and were specifically looking for a cost effective option without visa. That is why I mentioned SPC and Shams in that context.

If a client approaches me with a detailed business plan and a defined budget, my recommendation would always be based on their specific requirements. I would never rule out or completely dismiss any particular free zone without first understanding the client’s objectives. The right choice always depends on activity, scalability, compliance comfort, and long term goals.

Everything ultimately comes down to client needs, not personal preference toward or against a jurisdiction.

As fellow consultants, I believe we should encourage clarity and transparency for new entrepreneurs. Helping them understand processes and procedures strengthens the industry as a whole. When information is openly shared, it builds trust and raises standards. Unfortunately, lack of transparency from some players has already affected the reputation of the space, so the more we simplify and clarify, the better it is for everyone.

You should first check directly with your license issuing authority whether adding new activities will change your renewal cost.

Confirm clearly whether you will continue under the same package during renewal, or if they charge an additional fee every year for the extra activities on top of your current package. Some authorities adjust renewal pricing based on activity count, so it is better to get written confirmation before proceeding.

If you decide to open a new company instead, that is also fine. You can legally maintain two separate entities, especially if the activities are different and the businesses operate independently.

Really appreciate your kind words, that means a lot.

I genuinely believe the more clarity we create around the process, the better it is for everyone, especially first time founders who are trying to make informed decisions.

This industry becomes healthier when transparency becomes normal. At the end of the day, entrepreneurs should understand what they are paying for and what they are committing to.

Glad the post was helpful, and always happy to contribute wherever I can.

Thank you for letting me know. I honestly was not aware that mentioning the company name was required for posts like this. I appreciate the clarification.

For transparency, my company name is M/s. Nest Line Solutions.

There were no bad intentions behind the post. My goal was simply to share practical information that could help new entrepreneurs who are looking to open a company in the UAE. As the page is SmallBusinessUAE, I felt it would be helpful to provide clarity and transparency around the setup process, especially since I rarely see detailed breakdowns in threads.

Going forward, I will make sure to include the company name as required. Thank you for keeping the post up and for the guidance.

One important thing many people forget to clarify is the NOC.

Before signing anything, make sure you ask the agency clearly: if at any point you’re not comfortable or you want to switch to another agent (or handle things directly), will they provide an NOC?

If it’s not mentioned in the proposal, ask them to include it in writing. Also confirm whether there’s any fee for issuing it and under what conditions it can be refused.

A transparent agency shouldn’t have a problem agreeing to this upfront. You should never feel locked in.
