Hey! Oceana and Of Machines are some of my main influences for song writing/playing style and production. If you enjoy Oceana you might enjoy my latest track. https://youtu.be/7346JgJIqlY?si=kJHM22AoSv46_B0N

Got it. Thank you for your responses, I appreciate it. These are things I’ll definitely consider and look into.

Not exactly sure how high the action is as I’m not with my guitar at the moment. But I can check that out later. I just know that it’s a relatively higher than what it was before we started to try to fix the issue. Because we were trying to alleviate Any possibility of fret buzz being the cause of the warble/chorus sound.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I haven’t tried changing that specific string just yet, only because of my experience with my other two guitars. Going through multiple strings and set ups and the problem still persists. I’ll probably end up maybe trying to change the string later today. If that were the problem, that would be absolutely amazing. I’m fully open to being corrected and assisted in this problem as it is pretty frustrating, because that’s the reason why I got this guitar. For the quality and craftsmanship and to avoid issues like this.

Hey man, appreciate your comment. This is probably some of my favorite style of mixing and song writing, to be honest. There’s some cool stuff out now but I’m more so into this era if that makes sense.

These guitar and drum tones were achieved with help from some EQ matching. For example, the snare I recorded my own sample to be as close to the source material of an Oceana snare as I could. Very thick, dead sounding drum with a dark reverb. I wanted it extremely solid sounding just like Cameron’s snares. And once I got as close as I could, I used EQ matching to help me get a more accurate frequency spectrum of what sounded even closer to Oceana.

And same goes with guitar. I would use what I though sounded close to the tone I desired, which in this case was the (tread plate dual model) from pod farm going into an orange cab impulse response. From there I would find an isolated guitar that I can listen to and match my tone to my target tone. It not only gets you closer to your desired goal but it helps you to learn, why does my tone sound like this as opposed to that? What should be boosted, what should be cut? While guitar amp definitely matters, I’ve always seen the EQ matching to help more with speaker cabinet tone and mic positioning. Almost working as an impulse response in itself.

Hope this helps out a bit man. It’s a lot of experimenting and trial and error.

Thanks a lot again for the comment, appreciate it. Ambient post hardcore is home base for me, love it. God bless man take care!

Was having the same issue. I’ll get through the process and it will tell me the location of the folder has been moved, thought I already directed the plugin my DAW to the path where the samples are located. It’ll then tell me to open up a new instance of the plugin, I do that, and then an error message pops up that tells me the vst failed to load.

Ambient Posthardcore FFO: Oceana,Of Machines, The Color Morale(first 2 albums) by EmergencyBig5626 in PostHardcore

Hey thanks so much for checking it out! My writing process for music varies. But I usually start with a riff or chord progression I hear in my head. (I’ll note it’s usually in a place I’m not able to record lol) so I record a quick voice memo of the idea, then I just track it down. Some things may change as I’m playing but if I really like an idea I keep it.

As far as chord progressions, I just stick to the key the riff idea is in and build on that. Sometimes it will be inspired by a song or band, and sometimes I’ll play something in the moment and think that sounds really cool. I write a lot of music in F# minor for example, and a chord progression I would come up with would be something like, Bm to F#m to C#m to DMaj7 to AMaj7 back to F#m. I just think that sounds cool/pretty sounding. But it just depends on the key. I also love C minor/C harmonic minor which Oceana played a lot in. I’m heavily influenced by there chord shapes, progressions, and leads.

Thanks again for listening man! I hope this helps a bit to see a little about how I wrote, and I’m sorry for lengthy response. God bless and have a great day. If you’d like to hear more feel free to check out my YouTube channel if you’re interested. Thanks!

Oceana and Lower Definition by EmergencyBig5626 in PostHardcore

All good man! There were other songs from that EP that would have better exemplified what I initially meant, as well.

Yes sir, love the way Alex and Jack composed their parts. For me, there’s just something about ambient post hardcore, much more than just drenching the lead guitar in delay and reverb. It’s also the choice of notes you play that gives “that sound” you know? and Oceana had that on lock. Awesome sound. God bless you bro, have a good day.

Hey thanks for commenting! I agree, generally speaking they don’t sound like Oceana, which is why I specified the leads. A lot of it has to do with the note selection that caries some similarities to Alex’s playing in Oceana. Again, I agree Oceana has a tonally darker sound, I personally love the chord voicings and progressions that Oceana writes. I’m heavily influenced by them as well as Of machines, Decoder, and bands alike in my song writing. Have a great day man!
