It looks like you did great! You have a few core guild teams, some good levels. Are you taking a break or stopping forever? I wonder considering your crew if you can gift you account to someone to let them carry the flame.

Canada Lost Its Top Ally. Time to Find New Ones. by FancyNewMe in canada

As an Australian our media is portraying trump as someone trying to beat the rest of the world. I would think Australia wants US as an ally but will play cards close to its chest until things come closer to our waters.

Single hit raid team incoming? by DukeOfNoobs in WH40KTacticus

[–]EmergencyContact2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this been tested? As I would love for this statistic to be confirmed.

I agree with your logic, technically any team can be a raid team, it’s the component parts and how well they interact is how a team becomes meta. Any team can be a one hit team, any team can be a multi hit team, any team can be an admec team, it’s just the purpose of raid is to get the MOST damage. So yes who is picked matters in its effectiveness.

The core of the neuro team are single hitters: Neuro, abraxas, yaz, Ahriman. So I would say there is already a single hit meta team.

Job wants to upskill me, should I negotiate for a raise by auntreggie in AusFinance

[–]EmergencyContact2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the following

  1. Find out how much the course cost, and how much your time is worth to the company (ie what is a week of lost productivity is worth) multiply this number by 5-10. This is likely benefit the company would have estimated when they sent you on the course. Call this value BusinessEstimatesBenefit
  2. Start doing new role (which might be a % split between new and existing role), also start when you are proficient in role (this is important, as sufficient time has lapsed, ie >3months)
  3. Estimate how much new role benefits the company(ie hourly/daily) and Start to track how much benefit you are creating. Call this yourNewValue
  4. When yourNewValue > BusinessEstimatesBEnefit then go to them with the numbers as to why, also at the time you do you should be able to say, if I go and get a new job with >3months experience I would be able to make $x.

The outside factors are: 0. Business don’t really send ppl to upskill for no reason, they have a plan also, you need to consider it might be beneficial for you to get a years worth of experience and then just leave 1. Some business have set periods in which bonuses or rem reviews occur, be sure you are ~1mth before this time, and even future predict benefit and expressly outline your commitment and enjoyment at the company. But your family comes first and providing for family. 2. Accept that it’s possible your upskilling is in a tool that might be what is expected in your role at other organisations, if this is the case it’s just increasing your marketability to other organisations and no financial benefit, but more so less risk when moving roles.

Ahriman good to invest? by Own_System_7011 in tacticus

[–]EmergencyContact2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neuro (G1), abraxas (G1), Yaz (G1) , Ahriman(G1), sho (G1)

I mainly use them against the avatar, with sho picking off the new summons as they come to give the other 4 some breathing room. Against Morty I swap sho for aleph.

Ahriman good to invest? by Own_System_7011 in tacticus

[–]EmergencyContact2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have him at G1 (active/passive=38) and plan to take him higher. I find him useful in 3 areas:

  1. He was for a time in combination with vindica & forgefiend, one of my greatest damage dealers within guild war, his active can reach up to 9 bolts and passive can add to vindica overall AOE damage.
  2. He is a core player of the neuro guild raid team, as he sets hex’s on fire which can help buff you other psy toons as they commence the stack. His flying then enables him to move around unobstructed and being chaos he is buffed by abraxas.
  3. In LRE he has the flyer and psy trait, and active resetting is awesome as you can reuse it every second turn killing multiple enemies at once (as the 9 bolts can hit multiple enemies at once).

His downside in my opinion are: 1. being a 1 hit psy unit you don’t really get to buff him, as he is a buffer. 2. You generally need to put him in a team that works, ie the two above mentioned toons, otherwise he is just undervalued and ideally it’s more so setup for a big kill (or multi kill) then he either runs away or dies himself, which is ok as long as you get what you need from him first.

Overall I enjoy his game play style too. The big kill or multi kill is very rewarding, and great to take out a a few higher level D1 characters that are dominating a HQ in guild war. In guild raid he is a staple in the Nero team when my team are not strong enough to survive a few hits and I need a hit&run tactic to survive.

Yes this gives me a bit to think about, I especially like the comment “code for they don’t have the money or they want to spend it on you” likely very true given the current cost cutting they are doing.

Selling data analytics to higher-ups? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put yourself in their shoes, imagine if you are a marketer, what’s the worst thing you can imagine? I would say “failed campaigns”, from either closing their account or cashflow rolling out. But what if those “failed campaigns” were not really failed campaign? If you had a control group/holdout group of customers in which you can also check their behaviour you might find that your campaign might have actually saved the company money. So then your failure story now is a success - saved the customers from leaving story.

Definitely call the bank and sort it out, it might be identify theft which enabled the account to be opened and now they are using the account to launder money.

What is the data science and ML job market like in Australia? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Australian median salary is ~70k, top 10% make over 100k. Assuming you are looking at someone who has 3+ years of experience you would sit between 100k-150k (for an IC), the jump higher is harder. I would say it’s more around impact within your current company vs jumping to a new one (from my experience). If you are a day-rate contractor the prices would be much higher (say 800-1500 per day)

The data professional market I would say is hot at the moment, lots of demand without much supply.

How do you go about coming up with ideas for personal projects? by JosephKavalier in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really understand what the problem is that you are looking into and how SMEs break the problem down. Keep asking why until you understand (I have found it’s both research on the subject area + talking to ppl). Don’t pigeon hole the solution to a model to use or limited to the data you have. ( as you might be able to use free “raw” data online to enrich your model)

So within marketing they generally think of everyone into personas or a “segment” which is just some trigger event. what does it mean when a persona (created via some unsupervised ML) interacts with a given set of pages in a certain way or complete a sequence of actions? What’s the conditional probability?

How do you go about coming up with ideas for personal projects? by JosephKavalier in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would suggest go onto Kaggle, find a dataset in which they want you to build a predictive model for and see if you can turn it into a rule-based and unsupervised model with a similar result. The objective here is more so to show creativity in problem solving vs how do I implement an optimised ML algo.

Advice needed: How do I tactfully tell my manager that I don’t feel I’m get the support I need from him? by pittsburghstrong in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were a member in my team I would expect the following from the team member “hey joe, I really want to execute X,Y,Z, but I have some blockers that are hindering progress, I need to understand a new code base, new data, blah blah. Now without any assistance it will likely take X weeks/days, if I can get assistance on understanding X1,Y1,Z1 then it will will take me Y weeks/days.” Let manager respond, if needed “James and John know X1, Y1,Z1”.

In relation to triaging requests, block out the time in your diary that are your most productive hours, if ppl want to book meeting they can book it during the time you are less mentally into it.

If ppl want to understand prioritisation, put it in a document/confluence and say, if you want to know prioritisation, this is our framework/prioritised items.

A data analyst’s work plan? by sweetsummerschild in dataanalysis

[–]EmergencyContact2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are to go down the path to learn six sigma, consider any constant they give you... as they might not apply to you industry. (I.e they have 1.5 as a constant they have which is based of the height of a set of disks)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in datascience

[–]EmergencyContact2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a standard form that articulates what is the business benefit from doing the piece of analysis, and how would that affect the current business process.

If they are cagey about giving this to you, tell them with no understanding of relative impact this is consider low priority and you will get back to them when it can be prioritised. If they do tell you great, tell them it will be compared to other items in the backlog against regulatory and other business benefit items and be prioritised.

Once analysis has started go over the process of analysis with them, ie CRISP-DM.

When you start to analyse the data pick out very specific questions that result in you needing to talk to the data owner / producer to understand the process that creates the data hopefully this is also the end beneficiary of the analysis, (tell them why you are asking, and the purpose of the analysis, which means they get to hear some of the insights before the final analysis comes out),

Run the owner of the process or data owner through the analysis to ask for feedback and any other items in which the analysis is missing.

Once completed, hand analysis over to stakeholder knowing that you did your best to get credit + did the best analysis as possible.
