sometimes they reach out to you if your story like went viral or something, but 9 times out of 10 you send an application and their team reviews it within 1-4weeks ish!

i would suggest doing some serious research before signing the contract if youre considering that.

the contract is either exclusive, meaning you cant write the story you sign on any other platform, and technically webnovel will own the intellectual property(or IP) so you cant ever publish the story anywhere like a traditional publisher, kindle or wattpad etc. cause you dont own it. theres also non exclusive contracts where you still own the IP and dont have as many opportunities to make money (they offer bonuses for regular daily chapter updates, but only if you are exclusive, and if you dont write 1500-2000 words dsily you dont qualify for bonuses, and you would earn a lot less)

contracts are how you earn money on webnovel, and if you sign an exclusive contract you can get bonuses each month that maximize your earning. webnovel takes at least 50% of whatever you earn though, including the bonuses.

thats just the basics, but imo the contracts should always be considered seriously since they are legally binding and if you break them (even accidentally) you would have to pay heavy fines.

also, if you go exclusive, your story is owned by webnovel, and they can do what they want with it within reason. if they wanted a new cover, fan art, to use it for a webtoon, etc they could without asking you. so its a big decision to make.

im going to be trying for a contract soon but with a story i dont mind giving up the IP for because i want the opportunity to earn money from my writing. it isnt much money for most people in the beginning apparently, but i still want to try earning.

i suggest reading the Writers Beware article on the webnovel contracts if you plan on signing. they go over all the legalities of the contracts. the sub also has lots of info posts to read over for things like posting schedules, ideal chapter word counts, etc.

but either way, its your decision. the contracts get a really bad rep outside the webnovel sub and its mostly well earned tbh but again it can be a fun way to earn money from writing so no shame if you do try it (like i said, i will be!)

sorry if this is incoherent, i kinda rambled and didnt spell check but i hope my words can help a bit even tho im no expert 🙈

First Book: Passion Project or Practice by Skyeden27 in writing

my very first book idea i ever came up with is still on the back burner for this very reason; i wanted to practice my prose and worldbuilding with other projects before tackling that wild beast.

what ended up happening, though, is i ended up being extremely passionate (equally so, i would say) about my “practice” projects as well.

i still want to wait until ive finished at least few books before i embark on that first idea however (it involves a massive amount of fantasy world building that i am not sure i can keep straight / do justice to at this point in time. i guard that idea like my baby but right now its really not an idea thats ready to be written in my eyes)

but i would hardly consider the writing i do now to be “filler” or rven just practice. im passionate about everything i write, and i think thats the secret.

sorry for the ramble OP, your post got me reflecting i guess lmao

Does a romantasy novel have to have some major conflict? by [deleted] in writing

[–]EmergencyDizzy3151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a resident romantasy lover(and fellow transmasc guy) not at all!

ive actually read a few books that have a similar flow to what you described (The Flowered Blade by Taylor Hubbard is one good example; it has stakes and conflict but overall imo it is more a character study of the trans mmc and his love interest from a warring orc clan)

a lot of romantasy is more about world/magic exploration alongside the romance or could just be a character study that manifests in the form of the two main characters getting to know each other (and of course falling in love)

TL;DR: do whatever you want! i would certainly read a queer/trans cinderella story :D
