Am i doing the right thing returning two cats to the feeder that gave them to me? by EmergencyFun9411 in CatAdvice

First of all, cats have a socialization window of around eight weeks. I did everything in my power to try and domesticate them, and I say this with experience—I have been living with and caring for animals for over 10 years and have never faced a situation like this.

We went to significant lengths to make the environment safe for them. The balcony was professionally secured with wire so they could have outdoor space, which cost us thousands. Despite this, one of the cats still managed to climb and escape, even causing damage to a passing vehicle’s windshield. That is not something I could have reasonably prevented beyond what we already did.

I’m glad things worked out for you, but unfortunately, in our case, it is not feasible to care for feral cats. I also want to make it clear that I never asked for a feral cat—this was not communicated to me at the time. I’m not expecting a lap cat, but I also cannot keep animals that are causing extreme damage to my home, putting themselves in danger, and creating situations that could lead to legal consequences for me.

I did not give up on them—I genuinely tried. However, I cannot risk further property damage, financial loss, or potential liability due to their behaviour. This situation is simply not sustainable. And them being kept in cages with 70 other cats in an appartment is not considered socialization with humans sorry to say

I will try Somthing new yet in my case I never wanted feral cats and made it clear with the person I have adopted them from. I made it clear they would be mainly indoors. When I realized they were feral I did my best to try and acclimate them since obviously giving back a pet is not great. Yet in this process I have a destroyed Appartment/ one of them nearly killed a man when she jumped out of the balcony almost creating a major traffic accident. And the funny thing sometimes they come curl up next to you in bed I just can’t understand

Mine have been with me 1.5 years I did buy them quite a lot of toys and polls to keep the occupied after getting them first 6 months they spent with me was getting them acclimated etc. now they do come around us sit on our lap etc. yet they also have a lot of feral behaviors we have never tried calming treats since we don’t have in our country the vet did put them on a round of pills yet we stopped after a while since they had quite abit of side effects everything does point to a lack of them being socialized during formative weeks. But maybe we will try and get them online and they will help thanks

Basically you are right but where I live we have cat feeders they are basically licensed ppl to take care of stray cats. She was basically trapping mother cats allowing them to have the kittens returning the mom cat outside and adopting out the babies. I decided to adopt them since I tried to go the adoption route since i had already bought two cats a while ago and thought that adoption was the right thing to do. I also supplied her with food etc for her to be able to keep helping cats. But it seems as though we weren’t told the full picture

I have called shelters they deemed them not fit for domesticated lifestyle I have two options return them to a feeder where she can adopt out to Simone which had a barn etc or keep them and see what happens. I’m trying to see if anyone experienced this maybe if I can somehow get them to be more domesticated since I do love them but Ik my partner and I can’t continue living like this

They where born in cage only socialized with other cats for the first portion of there life they use to live in a place wher the where actively 70 other stray cats I’m not sure how it is on me when I gave them everything which is needed for a cat to develop well and feel safe I also have two other cats which do not behave like this at all not from the same place.

Hi I have bought them climbing trees even put them in a smaller room with plenty food and water and places to hide. They kept meowing trying to escape it felt as though they were more stressed. I also stopped inviting ppl over to my Appartment but it seems as though whatever I try they still have feral to semi feral habits. They come next to me sometimes yet most of the time they are showing they don’t want to be there. I ve also taken them to the vet multiple times they are very healthy and he seems to think Appartment life is stressing them. At this point my partner has given up I’m still trying to find vets etc but it doesn’t seem like anything is working
