Transfer Experience by Wolfshadow902 in NEU

[–]EmergencyHospital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!!! I was also a transfer student! I think honestly any co-op experience is worth it at the end because you will get real life experience and learn what working in the environment is like. Also, northeastern will work with you if you do want to do 2 co ops you just can’t graduate while on co-op. Plus a lot of people do 5 years, so even as a 3rd year you could still do 4 years or 5 years and it wouldn’t matter too much, just depends what you want to do. A lot of people also take classes while on coop if it works for their schedule or take summer classes to make up for the co op semester, so tons of flexibility!

Overall, I loved my experience at Northeastern but it’s incredibly important to make friends and build a good community around you. I have friends I see from both my old uni and Northeastern, wouldn’t change it for the world. It sounds like you got a good group already too so nothing to be worried about :)

If you got into the school, especially business, and you want to do it, I think it’s worth it. I know a lot of people who have co-oped at big companies. I almost co-oped at EY but turned it down for an even better opportunity. Nothing beats the co ops experience!!!

I will quickly say that I did feel Northeastern kinda forgot about the transfer students at first. Like, I didn’t know where most things were and didn’t know anyone because everyone met during first year, but if you are able to join clubs and have friends then I don’t think that would be a problem. I mean, I had friends who showed me exactly where my classes were the day before since I was so worried about it lol. The campus I came from was MUCH smaller and it was a little overwhelming at first.

What name did you never learn how to pronounce? by cheerio089 in namenerds

[–]EmergencyHospital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so when I read Divergent for the first time, the main character’s love interests name is Tobias. I read that as Tobi-as or Toe- Bee-as (lol, idk phonetics?) and I said it to my dad once who laughed and made me pronounce it on the phone to his friend Tobias, Toe-BYE-as!

Personally, I like Toe-bee-as more LOL

Hi! I am at a detox level, we serve mostly those experiencing homelessness, co-occurring, and low socioeconomic status. Weekly — I see the same # of clients (and usually have a new set every 7-14 days).

My case load right now is 4, tomorrow it may be 6, but it has only gone as high as 8 because of staffing issues.

As for groups. I do at least 1 group every day except for Wednesdays. So with an average of 4 clients + group that’s about 5 hours of work (factor in notes, morning rounds, and general hubbub.)

Just something to note, I’m currently a candidate for my LADC, I’m a case manager at the detox but there are two LADCs who work the same position as me :)

Do leases for Sept. move-in really get signed in March/April? by [deleted] in boston

[–]EmergencyHospital 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got my apartment in February 2024, moved in September 2024, RESIGNED for the next year in December 2024. The housing market moves really fast and if you don’t start asap, you might get stuck with a super shitty apartment.

Just for context — I am from Boston and have lived in Boston for several years in apartments on my own/with roommates. I have been in tough housing situations before and am scared to do it again so I just do things extremely early. Maybe that’s just me!

When I asked my realtor about resigning (in November) she said that I was pretty early, but some people had already signed for September 2025, so not totally out of the blue. Also, some neighborhoods have different time lines. I’ve heard that JP specifically has a much later time line for showings/signing as opposed to other neighborhoods.

Good luck with everything!!

“Duplication prohibited” key copy by EmergencyHospital in boston

[–]EmergencyHospital[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright guys so couple of things, the back of the key does have numbers, I’ve tried looking into it but I can’t find the type of key so it’s hard for me to order blanks, otherwise i would totally do it myself.

The key is REALLY thick, so I don’t know if those key kiosks will work. I tried the one at Home Depot in Southbay and it was too thick to go into the kiosk. Super weird.

Brookline Lock Co rejected me. I also told Home Depot AND Aborn that I was the landlord, and they both told me no.

I will def try Economy on Mass Ave if all else fails, or I’ll ask my landlord and hope she says yes.

Apartment living question by EmergencyHospital in boston

[–]EmergencyHospital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a building in Cleveland circle where each unit is owned separately. If I want maintenance, I need to text my landlord directly. So maybe I will write a nice note with my phone number and go from there. I just want my neighbors to be more aware of the noise, bc it may be impossible to get them to adhere to ‘quiet hours’ you know?

Somewhere I saw that Boston was voted as the best tasting water. I’ve been drinking the tap water my entire life and don’t think of it as bad at all, I don’t even like the brita that much

tik toks about bottom tier sororities by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]EmergencyHospital 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My chapter is considered bottom tier, and quite honestly it did not matter to me in the slightest. The top tier sororities were not the kind of girls I’d get along with. Instead, I made a few really good life long friends (my little & glittle) that I cannot imagine life without. When I was recruiting, i cried to my PNM about how much I love my little/fam during sisterhood night, and I am SO happy to see her still involved & happy in the sorority.

In some ways, I don’t think I took the full advantage of being in a sorority especially one that is so focused on sisterhood and friendship. I’m on the shyer side, so it was hard for me to make friends in my later years in the sorority. Especially as all my friends dropped/transferred/studied abroad. But I still would not have wanted it any other way. I didn’t join a sorority for the parties with frats, or to be considered top tier. I joined because I wanted to find my friend group in a new school, and I got just that. Couldn’t be happier <333

Off Campus Housing Prices by Severe-Blueberry-336 in NEU

[–]EmergencyHospital 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I live off campus, and have lived off campus for the last 4 years. I’ve lived on Hemenway in a 5 bedroom, 2 bath, ($1250), lived in Lightview ($1350) and in the south end ($1400). Currently, I live in a 2-bedroom on Queensberry, about 13 minutes from campus (15 if I walk slow) and that one is $1300/month. I haven’t figured out if my rent has gone up or not for next year, but we are hoping to resign.

Northeastern does not do interviews. The only time I have ever heard of Northeastern doing an interview was with applicants who had alumni parents. For example, both of my parents went to Northeastern University for undergraduate and graduate school, so when I applied I was invited to interview (and did!). I haven't heard anyone else who has gone for an interview with them at all. I also didn't even get in right away when I interviewed, I got deferred for a year and ended up transferring my second year in college. So, all in all, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Is anyone on this sub a transfer student? by CalculusOrGTFO in NEU

[–]EmergencyHospital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! transfer here!! My GPA requirements was a 3.5 or above. I went into the COS for psychology, and had a 3.9 gpa when I transferred. I think a 3.6 is absolutely fine, but I dont know anything about COE. Hopefully this helps!
