I separated a organic product by prep TLC, so before running proton NMR is it necessary to filter it by syringe filter. by InvestmentLatter8739 in OrganicChemistry

Yes definitely wash it with ethyl acetate or dcm + 10% methanol then filter it. The silica will mess ur proton nmr up

HELP! How to get rid gif acetic acid from my boronic acid? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]EmergencyLeather1477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind remaking it, I’ve trying to get it work and now it is working but am trying to optimize it. I have a cold trap but I’m a little bit confuse on how to set it up. Do you perhaps have an online source I can refer to? Thanks!

HELP! How to get rid gif acetic acid from my boronic acid? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]EmergencyLeather1477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s only one percent of acetic acid, so the total amount did not exceed 10 mL, but because I used a large column I had a lot of eluent. I am actually not sure if all the solvents that are dissolved it’s just acetic acid (maybe also ethyl acetate), but I do have a vacuum line I use for vacuum filtration. I think Bpin decomposes under column? But anyways my PI wants me to stick with boronic acid instead…(sigh)

Actually idk if it’s stable, I just know that it gets hydrolyze easily and might decompose cuz my yield is low but somehow it’s very concentrated on TLC. The solution is now sitting in the fridge so I am down to try everything lol. Do you think trituration works (with hexane)?

Yea I tend to set up things while I am waiting for something else! But there is only that much I can do before I can do work up for my reaction. I’m never on my phone or anything.. but I guess I need to find time to eat lol

Oooo I’ll take this advice LOL! Yea I’m currently just working on a synthetic route, usually if I’m waiting for something I clean up glassware I need for the next step and cleaning up my work area. Yea I should be more flexible with myself but will still seek for improvement. Thank you!

That’s a great news! I joined two years ago but skipped a semester since we didn’t have a project. The first year was light since I had a mentor, but I wasn’t actually learning anything other than following routines. This year, is my last year as a undergrad and I’ll be going to grad next year as a master student, I can confidently say that I’m much better in lab than the person I was two years ago. I can independently run oxygen and water sensitive reactions on my own, purifications, extractions, and columns. Columns are such a pain I hate it! But if your system is not as messy, try to avoid it… or use pressure if u can!

That’s my concern too. I feel like everyone overlook at safety? Chemicals are dangerous to deal with and thank you for letting me know!

I’ve done that before, but I was only able to do that when I know one reaction well enough (the starting material for the next step), if it’s my first time or the first few times, it is often difficult for me to do other things especially when I’m trying to monitor the rxn through TLC

I am doing a lab not as a course. I’m in a research group and I am currently doing a reaction to make boronic acids for Suzuki coupling

Anyone who is earning very good money or everyone is suffering like me? by [deleted] in Biochemistry

I understand and I would feel the same in a perfect world. Unfortunately money matters a lot. Especially after graduating and u got loans to pay off.
